I want to help you communicate well - whatever your area

My teaching style is centered around working with an individual wherever they happen to be at. In college, I assisted other students in Drury's writing lab. And, as an editor and journalist, I have extensive skills in dealing with helping reporters to communicate clearly and succinctly.
I graduated magna cum laude from Drury University, a private liberal arts college, in 1987, with a major in fine arts (photography and graphic design emphasis) and minor in communications (four years experience on the college newspaper). I also have 21 years of experience as an editor at weekly and daily newspapers in Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Working primarily at smaller newspapers, I have an extremely varied background of experiences - from writing "hard" news and features to on-the-job training for new reporters just out of college or new to the profession.

When I do teach others about English, I try to understand the way in which they learn. For example, if I were describing the usage of a word, I would explain it, and then use different examples. Once I found which way they best understood, I would expound upon that explanation. Because I enjoy learning about English and using it properly, it gives me great pleasure to pass my knowledge to others. I believe that having strong English skills, spoken and written, is important in expressing our opinions and knowledge.
I do not have any direct experience teaching or professionally tutoring in English. However, I am very proud of my English skills, and I look for opportunities to help others develop theirs. I enjoy teaching and working with children. I believe every child has a different way of learning and I am capable of meeting the needs of each student. I enjoy helping children discover their potential and encourage creative thinking. I know from my past that good educators can make a huge difference in a child's enthusiasm and self-esteem.
I grew up with both partents in the public education system, I was a student-teacher in H.S. and I earned a bachelor degree in Parks, Recreation, Natural Resource Management with a minor in Art Education.
