To teach, one needs three skills: the ability to relate to a student, the skills necessary to convey leaning, and subject knowledge. I'm proficient in these skills. I have a degree in chemistry with a minor in math. Taught all the maths in night school to students seeking associate degrees. And most importantly, I use math all the time in my business as a wealth manager having designed screens and a rating system all supported by algebra.

Teaching Math in English and Russian.

I am a professional teacher. I have 15 years of experience teaching. I have taught Math and Computer Science in college. Also I have taught in both public and private school systems. I have experience private tutoring for students in school, college and also university. I do understand that all students learn at different degrees but they all can learn better. So I am always teaching my students with considering their individual characteristics. I enjoy teaching because I very often hear from my students that they really start to understand Math or Computer Science better only when I take them to learn. Working one-on-one with a student is a great opportunity to really focus on the individual characteristics and academic needs of the student and helping them to be more successful in learning.

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience, (both academic and work)has been widely varied, ranging from research and engineering to financial management in a corporate environment, followed by golf course design and landscape management. In addition I used my experience in construction and woodworking to build and market patio furniture. Unfortunately the housing depression of the mid 2000's caused the business to be non profitable and was closed. Since 2005 I have been semi retired and used my construction experience to work at a lumber and hardware store.

My major complaint with the current pedagogy of STEM fields is there focus on teaching students to be able to produce answers so a slew of canned and frankly uninteresting problem sets. There is so much interesting literature, philosophy, and history in the fields of science and physics that it makes very little sense to muddle with these less helpful and dull techniques and problems. Physics and math education has become so perforated with cliche that shows like Cosmos and the elegant universe can become hits by just regurgitating the same buzz-theories (Schrodinger's cat, Black holes, the multiverse etc.) in the same, cloddish language (space-time is 'warped' and twisted, quantum 'weirdness', etc). This lack of original language and analogy is not a semantical issue; it's suggestive of the philistine cleaving of the sciences from the arts and it's very disturbing -- these truly awesome ... read more

My old next door neighbors have two children. One is a boy in elementary and one is a girl in middle school. I tutored the boy in reading and writing. He was able to read his first book on his own after a few weeks with me. I had to tutor the girl in math. she was taking algebra and was having a tough time with it. In two weeks of many meetings, she was able to pass her final exam. No matter what grade I was in, I always enjoyed going down to the ESE room and helping the special kids. I did what ever I could to help.

Experienced Tutor, Degree in Math!

I helped many students who had previously given up hope to pass the CLAST exam and I taught the math portion of an SAT prep course through FGCU's CAA. I tutored LD students through Adaptive Services at FGCU I taught labs at FGCU for intermediate and college algebra, statistics and business calculus. I taught AP Calculus and AP Statistics at a private school. I taught Pre-calc and Algebra II through Lee County School District.
Practice-Theory-Practice. I try to stay very focused on doing examples and practice problems. Some theory is necessary for a deep understanding, but it has to come at the right time. The student first needs some practice or at least an attempt to appreciate the process involved in solving a problem. Then I try and bring to light any issues and cover some theory. Then we do more practice.

"In the second grade my mom sent me to tutor. She was an older women and had once been a prominent local educator. She would sit me at her dining room table and have me do my homework while she watched soap operas in the next room. My experience was stagnant. I hated going to her house and I hated school work. In elementary and middle school, I was a C and D kind of student." "In the eighth grade we moved to a new city and I got a new tutor. It was at an after school program. There was one paid professional and two high school student assistants. The professional Mr. Litzel was amazing. When it came to my homework he would explain the logic and methodology behind the questions. If I still had issues, he always found a way to help me grasp the concepts. Over the course of a few months I went from being a C and D student to an A and B student. In high school I took honors classes and g ... read more

I am a person who very much enjoys helping people understand subjects that are scary and difficult for them. Presently, I am teaching linear algebra to a dyslexic woman. She's taken the class five times and this time she is passing! In the past, I have tutored physics, algebra, calculus, finite math, statistics, elementary school math, and freshman, bio- and organic chemistry. I have taught a 4 1/2 and 3 1/2 yr old to read, taught the 3 1/2 yr. old additon and subtraction, and a fourth grader algebra. Also, I have helped students to organize and write papers using proper grammar. In college, I tutored one-on-one and in small groups.
I enjoy teaching because I like the "ah ha!" or "eureka!" that people have when they discover and learn. I enjoy seeing them develop confidence in themselves. My goal is to teach in a way that the student can grasp and I realize that different peop ... read more

I am quite patient and will explain something as many times and in as many new ways as one possibly could. I very much enjoy seeing someone understand a mathematical problem! It is often a puzzle and algebra is an algorithm so it can be worked forward or backwards. There are many ways to find the answer!
Throughout college I tutored several math courses as well as helped my friends and fellow classmates who were currently taking courses I had already had! I also participated in many study groups! I have a BS in Economics from Michigan State University and have a very strong mathematical and statistical background!

I love learning, and was a member of the National Honor Society while in school. I believe every child has the potential to become an outstanding student and to enjoy attaining goals. I feel that the biggest obstacle to learning is often in the delivery of the message, rather than the inability to grasp a new concept. I am a patient and easy going teacher, striving to model myself after the teachers who were inspirational to me. During my professional appointments, the most rewarding part of my jobs was the ability to mentor and train others in the skills and knowledge I had gained over the years, which enabled them to become outstanding assets to our teams.
I have earned two bachelor degrees, a BS in Biology and more recently, as BS in Information Systems, graduating with honors. As such, I have a thorough understanding of math, science and computer concepts, as well as a str ... read more

My teaching style varied depending on the students abilities in my classes. When whole group or direct instruction was needed, I utilized it; if hands-on instruction was needed, I utilized that strategy. I am a firm believer that using a multi-sensory approach is the way to go in any instrucitonal program. Since all children learn differently, then the use of different modalities to deliver instruction will benefit more children. Most of all, patience is required. Because no matter what strategy and mode of instruction used, patience and guidance is needed for the child to achieve to his potential

A Little Bit About Me...

All through high school and college I was a tutor. I have taken numerous writing extensive courses. This qualifies me to tutor English. I have also taken many courses that concentrated on Social Studies. Science was always one of my favorite courses in high school, therefore I took a few science courses in college as well. I have previously tutored students in test preparation, and I have taken the FCAT myself. Math was another strong subject of mine, and I have also tutored students in this area as well.
I feel that I am a natural educator. I often find my self teaching people simple tasks at work, or being called upon by friends and family members to assist them, or their children with their homework. During my years in High School, I participated in various programs that involved tutoring students in reading and language arts. I have also tutored friends and family throughout the years in reading, math, and history. As a current student at the University of South Florida I help fellow classmates with homework as often as I can. I currently hold my AA from Manatee Community College and will graduate from USF with my BA in December of 2010.
I love teaching and working with children of all ages, especially at the elementary and middle school level. I know that my job is not done until the student I am tutoring fully understands the subject matter.
