I love being creative and finding ways to help others learn. I am great with children, and believe that patience and encouragement can give them confidence to excel at anything they choose. A Little Bit About Me...

While attending law school, I spent 2 full academic years tutoring first year law students. I tutored property and constitutional law. It was through tutoring that I was able to help several students improve their grades, both through emotional support and exceptional knowledge in the subjects. I enjoy learning new things and sharing that knowledge with others.
I believe that teaching through lecture and hands-on activities is the most effective. A student that is capable of "teaching" the teacher a lesson and explaining the subject in their own words will have a greater understanding of the subject. When I teach and tutor I explain to the student the topic in my words, and then continue to ask for feedback until the student is capable of explaining the lesson in their own words.

A Little Bit About Me...

Initially, I like to find out the basics. I want to know their underlying assumptions in any part of academia, whether it's math or science. I have come to find that the very simplest of assumptions can mislead students. I like to start each problem with a new set of assumptions, or a "given", "find", and "solution" step-by-step process. This allows the student to see the problem as a whole and if there are problems, be able to identify where they are beginning whether it's in the initial assumption or in the solution step.
I have spent the last five years attaining my BS in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Idaho. I have a unique approach to teaching because my background is both analytical (numbers and science) and imaginative (theater and literature). While classroom training is my forte, I also have a solid background in teaching online. This combination is particularly useful since no two children learn in the same way. I do not believe any student is dumb. If he or she has struggled picking up a concept, it is more likely because the right method of teaching has not yet been explored. I also believe educational advancement needs to be determined objectively by comparing scores from start to finish and subjectively by measuring a student's own feelings about his or her progress.

I have always been passionate about business and economics. As a young adult, I read every book about the subject that I could get my hands on! In college, I pursued a BS degree in Finance with a minor in Economics. I was the top student in my department and won a scholarship from Financial Executives International. I graduated with honors in 2004. Since then I have enjoyed a number of full time finance related roles including that of Senior Financial Analyst and most recently: small business owner. I have been doing tax preparation, audits, finacial statement preparation, accounting, data entry, monthly reconciliation, forensic accounting, and preparing trial balances while in college and there after. I have taken Excel classes and can use Power point. I have mentored peers within my office.
I love helping people who are learning in a field that I love. I chose to go into accounting while I was still in high school and I haven't had a regret yet. A Little Bit About Me...

Working with such a diverse population of students ranging from grades 3-12, I have learned that each child processes information in different ways. Assisting them in overcoming their learning disability has taught me to understand and identify their struggles and how they can work through them.
