A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with children and had around 9 different children for a two year period while working at the mental health agency. They ranged from 3 years old to 16 years old. I am patient when teaching new subjects and very empathetic to different situations and needs. I have always worked to do the best and be the best and make a positive impact along the way. I find that positive reinforcement of previously acquired skills encourages further learning. I also use creative everyday examples to help students understand topics better. For example, to help a child enhance their reading and math skills I’ll use a cooking activity. I currently teach GED math for Guilford Technical Community College. I have been teaching in the GED program for 8 years now. I also tutor adults for GTCC who are trying to upgrade their math skills to pass the NC CRC test. I taught pre-k for 3 years with Guilford Child Development. I have 2 kids of my own and I enjoy helping people!
I am now in Graduate School trying to achieve my masters in curriculum and instruction. The last couple of courses we have really focused on the 8 intelligences. This provides guidance to teaching every type of learner. So the first thing I would like to do would be to figure out what type of learner I am working with and implement a lesson plan specifically for them.
