A Little Bit About Me...

I've worked as an engineer in the electronics and electrical engineering industry for 14 years. I have tutored children in math and science for the last 4 years, most recently in high school algebra and geometry.
I believe in demonstrating how to do the work and then guiding the children as they apply what has been demonstrated. The best way to learn is by doing under supervised guidance. Once the children learn to apply the proper steps to accomplish the task at hand, the feeling of accomplishment drives them to continue on their own.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a strong interest in the sciences of the world. I earned a bachelor degree in ecology including a minor in botany. I also earned a Master degree in biology studying mountain quail. During my undergraduate and graduate education I participated in the GK-12 program as a scientist in residence. I spent 20 hours a week in the middle school and high school setting for two years. The purpose of the GK-12 program was to help increase scientific literacy in southern Idaho. I am keenly aware of the challenges that face middle school and high school students in grasping scientific concepts. I also taught biology at the college level and I have recognized that many students are at different levels of scientific understanding.

I then worked for Motorola in Phoenix, where I received security clearances for work for the military. I have found much satisfaction from overcoming challenges. While in academic pursuits, many subjects may at first seem difficult. Such tough times are great opportunities to gain confidence by finding a personal path to clarity. By knowing where the student needs to get, I am able to encourage them to discover their unique way of understanding which often differs from their school teacher's instructions.
