As a student at a small Jesuit Liberal Arts college, earning a Bachelors of Arts and Science in English and Biochemistry, I have come to fully understand the way in which each individual can and does influence the education of others. For more than five years, I volunteered as a religious education teacher for my church. A Little Bit About Me...

I finished my lower division coursework at a california community college (AHC) and earned a total of six associate degrees. While at the community college, I administered practice test for students in MESA in mathematics (Calculus 1,2,3, and 4) while also working the maximum of 20 hours a week in the campus math lab (walk-in tutoring). Furthermore, I attended and graduated from UCLA with a bachelor's degree in physics and a minor in mathematics and finished the necessary coursework to apply to all medical school programs in to the country. I tutored for side money while attending UCLA. Currently, I'm a graduate student at SDSU. I'm two courses and a Master's thesis away from receiving my Master's degree in Physics.

During high school I attended a special program, Health and Medical Occupations Academy, developed for students who wanted a career in the medial field. My high school classes were oriented towards the medical profession. In addition I was required to take anatomy/ physiology, biology, and several nursing classes. I am currently a 2 year medical student. Before entering medical school I worked voluntarily for an orphanage in Mexico. During my time at the orphanage (about 4 years) I participated in tutoring the children, of all ages, with school work and English.
I have worked with small children to adults, teaching English and school subjects. I work best with pre-teens- adults, however have no problem teaching small children. Tutoring is important for me because many times during my educational career I have needed tutoring myself, in regards to language barriers.

I started tutoring when I was a college student. Upon my entrance to the SDSU Department of Chemistry, I was granted an opportunity to teach as a TA in Chemistry. I had been teaching for 4 years before I received my master's degree in December of 2007. In these 4 years, I always had good evaluations from students. As a result of my hard work, the SDSU Residential Education Office decided to hire me as a contracted tutor in the dormitory area in 2007. My approach to tutoring is that all students want to learn, even if they act otherwise. It is my job to make the subject more relevant, interesting and understandable for them. I assume everyone is capable of learning the material and try different ways of introducing and reinforcing information until it sinks in. I believe parents have a hard enough job, and it is sometimes best for someone else to tackle school subjects where the kids are not thriving. Kids often benefit from a fresh perspective and if their self-esteem is at all suffering from difficulties at school, having a new person involved in their lives can help them feel more confident again.
