I have been working with children since I graduated from high school. I was a teachers assistant for the hearing impaired for 4 years and did some tutoring on the side for both deaf and hearing children. I attended college and received my bachelors degree in Psychology and then got a job as a teacher on an emergency credential and realized I loved teaching. When I graduated from college, I taught bilingual elementary kindergarten for 2 years on an emergency credential. I moved to Missouri in 1995 and since 1997 I have been a daycare director till recently. I enjoy seeing the pride and joy in each child when they learn something new. Also, U of R is a liberal arts university, which means I have been educated at a high level in a variety of subjects, such as English, Math, Spanish, Art, and Science. I think that everyone has a propensity to learn a language and each student needs someone very patient to go down the path of language learning with them. A student learning a foreign language must speak the language a lot, so I will place an important emphasis on conversational skills. Once a student can converse correctly and comfortably in another language, they will have more fluency in their writing, reading and listening skills. There will also be an emphasis in authentic learning materials, and will consist of materials made by and for Spanish Speakers in Latin America and Spain.
