I have done assistant teaching for my professors at Concord University. I helped set up laboratory equipment, answered college freshmans' questions and provided reasons for why certain biological processes occurred in Biology 102. I only did it for two hours per week, but I learned how to cooperate with college students and provide my insight of biology.
I had no exact teaching method. However, I was able to answer simple questions and allowed the students to work on their problems by discovering some of the ideas themselves.

Your Child Needs Help? I Am the One Who Can Help Them!!!

I am a direct/explicit instructional teacher or instructor. Explicit instruction is broken up into stages that follow a sequence. The sequence of teaching/learning is as follows: first setting a purpose for learning, then telling students what to do, then showing them how to do it, and finally guiding them with hands-on application of the new item that was learned. Reading Comprehension & Fluency Strategies: Fluency- 1. Focus on phonemic and alphabetic awareness 2. Teaching the meaning of learning simple to complex words 3. Give strategies to increase the speed of students reading aloud Comprehension- I focus on the five close reading strategies that support Common Core learning. 1. Number the paragraphs that you will be reading 2. Chunk the text 3. Underline and circle with a purpose 4. Write in the margin what each paragraph is saying 5. Take a deeper look into w ... read more

My comments on tutoring Biology : up to biology 101/102 college level

While pursuing a double degree from the University at Buffalo and working part-time, I worked in peer tutoring groups for Latin and writing. I have experience proof reading papers and correcting grammar. My four semesters of college Latin have given me a understanding of English language origins and modern usages. Latin also helps me to use punctuation and grammar correctly and effectively. I am well versed in aspects of earth science and geology due to my interest in geology at the University at Buffalo. While there I completed two full semesters of geology lab and lecture.
I am someone who understands that not all children learn effectively the same way. I am someone who will sit down with my student and ask them questions regarding how they learn and how they do not learn. Sometimes a student will not know how they learn effectively but they will know what does not work for them ... read more

i have never taught professionaly, but have assisted fellow students. the methods i useed to help them were ither to incorporate the subject matter into a sumject that they had a personal interest in, or manny time i found that they just didnot understand the language of the subject so i reexplained it in simpler terms and they got it just fine.
Even as a student i helped my fellow students to understand and grasp the subjects they were having difficulty with. i can generaly spinn the information into a subject matter that interests the individual or just explain it in an easier to understand manner, offted they just get lolst in the language of teaching. i minnored in math, and majorred in science and agriculture in high school, ansd took veternary technology in colledge this involved mostly biologies and lab technigues.

After receiving a degree in Sociology from a New York State University, I went on to earn a provisional teaching certificate in Biology. I have twenty-one graduate hours in Reading and eleven graduate hours in Early Childhood Education. My previous work experience had me working with families where one adult was in need of a GED. I have tutored students from elementary through high school in every subject (except Foreign Languages) for over ten years. I have also worked with entering BOCES LPN students on math review and raised many of their entry level grades twenty points. I have also been very successful tutoring children with behavior problems.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with children and I believe all children have the capacity to learn. Teachers need to recognize and learn the correct methods to instruct individual students using their strengths to overcome their weaknesses. I employ various teaching styles based on the student, the subject area, and the goals desired.I am patient, understanding of outside circumstances, and strive to ease the student into the process so they do not become overwhelmed. I keep the learning environment fun but structured so that the student has the best environment in which to learn.

I love to work with children of any age. I have been volunteering for over 15 years helping wherever and whenever I can to help make the lives of children more enriched. I have two boys of my own (age 10 and 14) and have been successful in helping them achieve the best they can. I have been teaching kids as a substitute for many years and went back to school in my middle 30's to become a teacher. Unfortunately the availability of teaching positions in my area has prevented me from full time employment but I've kept myself busy subbing and working with young adults and those with disabilities further their educational needs.

I have a B.S. in biology. I have previously tutored for 3 years in college level biology and chemistry, and one year in biochemistry. I have also tutored in high school math, and have worked worked with students preparing for the SAT math section. I have previously worked with individuals and small groups and am comfortable with both.
I very much enjoy working with students. I get along easily with others, and am patient and understanding when teaching. I have good listening skills and try to really pinpoint a student's strengths and weaknesses. I think that tailoring questions and problems to a student's current knowledge level is important for motivating and challenging him or her without too much frustration. I think personalized teaching can really make a huge difference for a student.

A Little Bit About Me...

During my junior year of undergraduate work, I was contacted by a professor and asked to become an English tutor intern for my fellow students and visiting exchange students from Aichi, Japan. I was told that this hands-on tutoring would also coincide with an upper level English class, a class in which permission of its instructor, the English department and recommendations from other professors were all required. I accepted the offer and began my brief journey as a tutor from January 2008-May 2008 and truly enjoyed the time I spent helping others learn the language and writing skills that go hand-in-hand with the English language. Though I recently graduated and have not formally tutored in a year, I still use the skills I have obtained - writing, communication, grammar, spelling and editing - in daily life. I feel that with my Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Communications, I ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that different teaching styles help different students. A method of both lecture and active learning can be effective for the widest range of students. This allows the students to get a brief introduction to the day’s material before they work in groups on questions about the material. I feel that student’s can learn best from each other because they are all at the same level. If a group is unsure of an answer they can always ask the teacher or look it up in a book. Finally, active learning demands that the students find the answers instead of being told them. This will benefit them greatly once they join the work force.
During my past three years at St. John Fisher College I have been actively engaged in the chemistry department. I have been exposed to various teaching types, one being active learning within a group. This has allowed me to develop teaching skills ... read more

I enjoy earnest and humble students, learning with and from them. I feel uncomfortable not learning laterally as well as vertically, seeing that to be knowledgeable, one must not just memorize but ruminate on what was memorized, making as many lateral connections as expedient. I like to simply direct and expand a student's learning as opposed to an artifactual accomplishment; however, my premiere obligation is punctual achievement of task.
I am qualified to tutor writing, basic computer, reading, basic math, learning, biology, organic chemistry, genetics, geography, and various exams, all from college-level experiences. I had a scientific book in Barnes and Noble, ample graduate-level coursework in Education, experience as a High School teacher, and lived abroad. I have a B.S. in plant biotech from Cornell.
