A Little Bit About Me...

No two children are the same, and we know that this is correct, so therefore it applies to their learning ability as well. Some children need visual simulation to really ingrain the principle that is trying to be understood. While other's learn by complete repetition. A Little Bit About Me...

Ever since I was in high school, I have always enjoyed working with children in a variety of situations. I helped out in a second grade classroom and enjoyed helping students understand their classwork. Even in college, I enjoyed helping my friends with math and writing. Last year, I taught a self-contained sixth grade classroom and this year, I taught a multi-age first and second grade classroom in the same school.
My creativity allows me to come up with different teaching ideas depending on the child's needs. Differentiated instruction has helped me to reach the needs of all learners and positive reinforcement has helped to motivate students to want to do well. I have always enjoyed teaching. I try to take into consideration the individual's learning style when teaching. Many kids learn best when a "hands on" approach is incorporated into the lecture or instruction. I am laid back, patient, have a good sense of humor, and have never had difficulties connecting with youth of all ages. Sometimes, I have used creative ways to teach. As an undergraduate at MIT, I have a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, and have complete master of those taught at the high school level. I have also completed several advanced courses in chemistry, biology, and physics, but am still young enough to remember the techniques I used to learn those subjects when I myself was a high school student. I have prepared many students (privately) for final exams in biology, geometry, and algebra.
I have a knack for creating analogies and mechanisms to help students remember things for exams, as well as strategies and ways of thinking that may be a little different than what was taught in class (but still gets them to the final result).
