I have helped in a 6 grade math class twice totaling over 50 hours. I helped with Mrs. Wilson's class at St. Elizabeth Seton in 2009 and 2011. I helped her teach some students math concepts and helped them with their homework problems. I have also tutored one 6th grader for one semester 2 times a week. I have never been a teacher, but I can speak from a student's perspective. A good teacher is the one that identifies the needs of a student. Challenging the mind is very important, but also showing respect, patience and serious willingness to help. Practice is essential for a student to learn. From my personal experience, I would only learn from those teachers that gave out assignments to know where I was at in terms of knowledge.
