I have been teaching in various forms for over ten years. I was a teaching assistant for four semesters in graduate school. I mentored and tutored people during my time as a Naval officer. I worked for Kaplan Inc for about a year, teaching almost all of their tests, including SAT, ACT, MCAT, LSAT, GRE, and GMAT. I taught mathematics and statistics at Parkland College for three years. I am currently employed as a full-time instructor at a government laboratory...but I'd like to teach more, in the late afternoons, evenings, and weekends!

I have had practical experience working as a microbiology level I technician for a major pharmaceutical company. My primary duties included many of the bench chemistry and laboratory biology techniques from college. I have completed one year of post bachelor's education at Illinois State University and am currently one semester shy of obtaining my type 09 high school teaching certification. I believe that students need guidance and structure in order to reach their highest potential. In the classroom, instruction can only be differentiated so much. Individual tutoring would allow me the chance to really meet a student at their level and understand their learning style. I am currently in my first year teaching in Indianapolis. My teaching style is one which engages the student actively in the learning process. I have used the "popcorn" technique in a classroom, where I call out "popcorn", then call on someone at random. This ensures that each student in the class is following, or else they lose their turn to read. If I'm working w/ a student w/ poor reading skills, I allow them to read, and help them w/ the difficult words, encouraging them to sound out the word. I also try to engage models, and kinestetics, in the learning process. One picture=1,000 words, and one model = 1,000 pictures. I also use these techniques in teaching mathematics.
