While pursuing my MA in Medieval Studies, an interdisciplinary degree combining history and literature, I was able to teach six sections of Medieval 145: Heroes and Villains. The sections averaged 40 undergraduate students of various ages and I enjoyed sharing my love of history and literature with them. At the same time, I was able to help shape their writing and research skills. I learned the ever-important lesson: if you can research it, you can teach it! In high school, my BA studies, and my MA studies, I earned top grades in all my history and English classes. A Little Bit About Me...

Young people learn through different ways and means. I try to discern the best method to instruct any particular student with whom I am tutoring at the time. I like to give examples of problems, and "problem solve" with the student through illustrative examples on paper or on the board. I encourage questions and feedback to ensure that the young person is indeed learning "how" to solve a problem, not simply to "get" a solution. A student's practical demonstration of problem solving is the best gauge to determine if that student is indeed learning or not. While giving instruction, I strive to be patient, accomodating and respectful of the student in need. I love to give encouragement and praise for any task or assignment done well!
