A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated with honors from a formal university, where I tutored fellow classmates; however, I gained most of my tutoring and teaching experience overseas, in a universal classroom. I have taught youth and adults in Mexico, Spain, Chad, Benin, Morocco and other countries. In most of those cases I was teaching English, but I also taught key aspects of health, sustainable development, lifelong skills and leadership. I taught classes ranging in size between 5 and 100. I am an accomplished writer and enjoy tutoring in English composition, literature and grammar, as well as foreign language. I believe strongly in education and deem that it is a catalyst for growth, change and success, whether for an individual or a nation.

I started out working as a Head Start teacher's assistant and the following year I was promoted to Head Start teacher and manager. I have also worked as a 1:1 instructional assistant with a high needs student. Currently I worked in a behavior school as an instructional assistant, and I have stepped in to plan curriculum and teach all the classes because the teacher has been on paid leave this year. I also have been commuting to college in Castleton State College from Springfield after work to complete my degree in education. I fundamentally believe anyone can learn. If a student isn’t grasping a concept, it just means I have to change my style of teaching. I have a passion for teaching but waited until I gained some "real world" experience. I found that this has helped me relate to my students since I am able to make meaningful connections to their learning.
I like to discover what my students already know about the topic and to expose any misconceptions. Brainstorming activities work well for me.
