I am a recent college graduate from Ashland University with a degree in communication and French. While at Ashland as well as in high school, I was involved in peer tutoring programs. In high school, I tutored a second year student in French, mainly in grammatical concepts. In terms of mathematics, I was always a strong student in math. While attaining my genetics degree at Ohio State, I worked at the OSU Chimpanzee Center. After graduating, I started working for the Department of Agriculture in the Weights and Measures division. It was my job to try to "trick" the scales before they could become available for commercial use. I moved back home to Coshocton when I got married. I quickly found a job teaching adults within our county's GED program. I believe in starting with the basics in all things. Reading starts with Phonics, and writing starts with Spelling and Vocabulary, as well as old-fashioned handwriting skills. An absolute staple of learning, in my opinion, is frequent reading for pleasure – whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, novels or comic books. I am patient and love to teach, even reluctant learners. I remember what it was like to not want to sit around and do schoolwork, so I don't expect children to be eager to do it.
