My comments on tutoring Literature : Highly qualified to teach English literature, specifically British and Irish literature, but also American literature. I curated an exhibition at the Spencer Museum of Art (KU) titled "That Invisible Dance: British and Irish Art and Literature from the 1800s to the present" - it was highly successful and a voluntary project. I think lots of modeling and review of the concepts being taught is essential. I want the student to observe the modeling and then for me to guide them through the learning of the concepts. Students should be fully engaged in order to gain a full understanding.
I have been tutoring all subjects K-8 for over 15 years. I am a certified teacher and currently teach 6th grade. I worked at Sylvan Learning Center for over a year before becoming a private tutor. I encourage students to not only read the assignment and the assigned homework, but to question the validity of the issues being discussed, including what the author has written. By having student examine the issues and using critical thinking, they become better academics, but develop the ability to think outside of the box
