I believe that education is the key to success in life. No matter what your social level, getting an eduation is the highway that leads to a better way of life. Education forms the building blocks of a better person. I am a "visual" learner myself, but I understand that there are many methods of teaching, and the goal of a teacher is to find the right method for each student.

As a college graduate, I desire to constantly succeed at my efforts on a daily basis. I earned two bachelor degrees, BS in Social Counseling and BS in Behavioral Management, which has lead me into the helping profession. I also possess an AA degree in juvenile delinquency, which helps me deal with even the most difficult children of all ages. Due to the positions I have held, I needed to have extensive skills in writing and also math. I held a 3.3 and above while in college.
I have always loved to work with children. My job while in college was teaching children at a learning center. I also have tutored several children throughout the years that were having difficulties in either math or English. I have a strong background in math and English, but also have experience in psychology, sociology, and science. I believe a child can achieve whatever they put their mind to, but some time ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have two years of experience teaching the English language to Taiwanese children and youth. I have also worked with at-risk children and youth in summer and after-school programs. In addition, I have one year of experience in curriculum development. In addition, I have earned a BA in political science (from a liberal arts college) and am currently working on a BS in accounting. I have an excellent command of the English language, social studies, and synthesis writing, and have successfully tutored my own child in phonics and reading.
Having taught children and youth from age 5 through 16, I can truly say that I enjoy the experience. The truest reward is the facial expresssion when a revelation of learning has occured, or a skill mastered. I believe that learning can be made more interesting by showing its relevance in everyday living. To meet the teaching objectives, I ... read more

I have always valued the importance of a quality education and have encouraged friends with no college ambition to start working on their degrees. I am not, however, an elitist. I think every endeavor is a learning experience, but there are basic skills that are necessary to be successful, such as grammar, spelling, and professionalism. My experience in formal teaching is mostly in college-level public speaking and coaching Little League, but I am a proficient and tedious writer. I am also familiar with APA, MLA, Chicago, Turabian, and BlueBook formatting styles. As a recreational scientist, as I like to call it, I have also learned a great deal about chemistry (mostly inorganic but some organic), biology, and anatomy and physiology.
I come into contact with a variety of different students with different areas of interest as a public speaking teacher. My teaching philosophy is to r ... read more

More About This Tutor...

At the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga I received an excellent education where I got my BA in History with a minor in Sociology. There I was taught by excellent professors who instilled in me passions for history, sociology, and intellectual discussion. I also wrote many papers which have given me good grammatical skills. I also gave many speeches and took part in many discussions which have given me good speaking skills. I want to apply this education and experience by working as a tutor for you.
I love teaching and history. I believe that anybody can learn anything. I think if someone has not learned something it is because someone has not taught it to them at all or they have not been taught in the right way. I believe anyone can reach a high education level if they are nurtured by educators who believe in them and are patient.

I teach to the student. That is I get involved with teaching to each student's learning style. It is important to offer a variety of teaching techniques and methods and provide motivation for each student. One on one teaching provides each student with the opportunity to reach his/her potential.
I had always wanted to be a teacher. I taught for 13 years in the Mobile County Public School System at one school. I then took time off to raise my children. I worked for 12 years at St. Luke's Episcopal School teaching English and History. My next assignment was with Cottage Hill Christian Academy for nine years. While there I taught English, U.S. History to juniors, government/economics to seniors, and psychology to juniors and seniors. At present I am teaching middle school language arts in an alternative school.

I have studied Latin for 7 years, and have earned 27 credit hours at the collegiate level in the field with a 4.0 average in those courses in Latin Poetry, Latin Prose Composition, Latin Epistolary Writings, and Liturgical Latin. A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching/tutoring while in graduate school. I tutored undergrads in sociology, psychology, and social statistics. I also taught driver's education to high school students while in grad school. After ten years working in law enforcement, I switched to social services and I have been mentoring children in foster care for the past twenty years.
I try to keep the material fresh and I avoid boredom and repetition at all costs. One of my best tools to connect with a young person is through humor. If the student feels relaxed they are more likely to absorb the information. I also use reverse psychology to turn the tables so they actually find themselves teaching me the material. This has been a successful tool with children I have mentored as well as my own children.
