My style is to build confidence in the student by teaching positive thought processes, study skills, learning techniques, and a strong work ethic. Having taught both gifted as well as students with learning disabilities, the one factor I found in common with all of them, is that in order to get them to learn you have to first get them engaged. Although I believe that traditional teaching methods certainly have their place, I am a firm believer in thinking outside of the box, and there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to education. I think that it is important to find the types of learning that each student finds easiest to understand, and tailor the course so that it works well with their particular learning abilities. This can easily be done in a classroom setting as well as an individual basis.
