In May of 2010, I graduated with my B.S. Degree in Psychology and Sociology from Louisiana State University. In December 2012, I graduated from Nicholls State University with my M.A. Degree in Psychological Counseling. I was a substitute teacher at Ascension of Our Lord School for one year and taught all grade levels. While pursuing my undergraduate degree, I was the caregiver to an ADD/ADHD for one year. One on one tutoring style--I provide one on one tutoring sessions that include the use of a variety of instructional strategies including worksheets, workbooks, sight words, vocabulary, Venn diagrams and charts, flash cards, compositions and educational websites. Group tutoring is available that would involve using the same instructional strategies, but the instruction would take place in a group setting of 2 or more students and could involve the Jigsaw method which involves all students collaborating together to achieve academic skills.

A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating with a dual degree, I taught in Texas for 27 years in the fields of English, Geography, Health/PE, History, and Math. I have presented multiple times on the state level in math. After moving to Pensacola, I have tauht two years in the Florida K-12 sytem, presenting in Tallahassee in an area social studies conference, and three years in the community and junior college system. Recent tutoring includes math up to college Algebra, some physics and chemistry.
I enjoy a Socratic method of questions to teach. Each student has her/his own style of learning and the Socratic allows me to home in on that style and give the student ownership of the larned material. I have ben told I have the parience of job and a "down-to-earth" way of explaination.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love the written word and reaching people, so I ultimately chose to major in journalism. My love for teaching and instructing students led me to pursue my minor in education. In the past three years, I've tutored undergraduates in writing (grammar, composition, etc), graduate students (editing theses), proofing resumes and technical documents, and tutoring elementary and high school students in reading and basic math.
College students are difficult to work with because they think they know it all. A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching/tutoring while in graduate school. I tutored undergrads in sociology, psychology, and social statistics. I also taught driver's education to high school students while in grad school. After ten years working in law enforcement, I switched to social services and I have been mentoring children in foster care for the past twenty years.
I try to keep the material fresh and I avoid boredom and repetition at all costs. One of my best tools to connect with a young person is through humor. If the student feels relaxed they are more likely to absorb the information. I also use reverse psychology to turn the tables so they actually find themselves teaching me the material. This has been a successful tool with children I have mentored as well as my own children.

I worked first hand with professor and teaching assistant and have learned what they are looking for. I believe in teaching concepts and helping students fully understand ideals rather than students just memorizing facts. This way no matter what the professor asks they will know how to answer questions and ace exams. If they just memorize things, they can get confused and get answers distorted. I believe in hands on learning and teaching. I would make "Jeopardy" games to quiz students and also have fun at the same time. By quizing on concepts that are being taught, it gives insight to what the student is understanding and therefore, I can adjust and clarify things that the student is not understanding.
