LESSONS SHOULD ACCOMMODATE STUDENT LEARNING STYLES

I have 15 years of teaching experience with special needs students in a rural school district. During this time i provided private tutoring sessions for Elementary, Middle, High School and College students. Before I was able to tutor, I taught 7 year old girls cheerleading. When I began to tutor, I enjoyed being one on one with the child. I am very patient, punctual and considerate. I know children that need extra help need extra time. I find it personally rewarding to supplament a child's education. In order to be an effective teacher I have seen that I need to be flexible with how I present material to a student. If a student is visual I am able to create diagrams and use props to show a concept rather than only speak the material. Some students need hands on and things like manipulatives in math help create a concrete way to remember a concept, and this is also something I do. I have had two practicum rotations thus far. My first rotation was at C. W. Baker High School, in Baldwinsville, NY. This was a 10th grade, level one Global Studies classroom.
