A Little Bit About Me...

Mike's Guitar Studio is based on the belief that the students needs are of the utmost importance. The Studio is committed to meeting those needs. As a result, a high percentage of our business is from repeat customers and referrals. Lessons are catered towards what the student wants to learn. There is no one method that works for each student. Each student has different ways of learning, we recognize this and apply it to our teaching policy. The Lessons should be a fun and positive experience as the student progresses on his or her instrument. The primary instructor/ owner, Mike Benninger, has a B.M. in music performance from Keene State College and a M.M. in music performance from the Yale School of Music. Mike's Guitar Studio is located in New Windsor in Mike's Home Recording/Music studio. Recording can be an added tool for recording lessons, songs, pieces, and ideas.

I have now been playing the guitar for roughly eight years. Performing at school concerts to charity events and now playing gigs at local clubs and restaurants, I am venturing off towards the directions of teaching the instruments to willing students. I have been teaching students from the age of 14-17 for the past year as some of them have began their own bands and playing at concerts.
I prefer to teach towards the student, meaning working not only on the students strengths but also their weakness. By doing so, the student will be able to play at their highest level. Specifically, teaching the guitar is much more abstract than learning Math or English. The guitar takes coordination, hearing, and soul to learn. I plan on teaching every student not to just play songs but how to truly play the guitar.

My comments on tutoring Guitar : The basics of performing and songwriting with acoustic or electric guitar. Setup and maintenance.

As a Product and Project Manager with over 10 years of cumulative experience managing software, web and video game products to market, I offer students real-world perspectives and exercises to prepare them for real-world design, production, quality assurance, leadership and marketing careers. I tend to teach the concepts that are not found in textbooks and always challenge my students to think critically.
In both my technical business and music coaching backgrounds, I take two different approaches: - In a group class, I teach structured lessons with engaging group exercises where possible and time for Q&A. - In individual coaching, I assess each learner's intrinsic motivations (mastery, learning, recognition, etc.) for taking the lessons and then structure assignments that apply to and challenge these motivators.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been playing music my whole life. I began playing piano at six years old, saxophone at ten, bass guitar at thirteen, and guitar at fourteen. Throughout my high school career I played a variety of rock band gigs on guitar, bass, and keyboards; I also played a variety of jazz gigs on saxophone. Currently I am a music student at William Paterson University, and am graduating this May with a degree in Jazz Saxophone Performance.
My teaching style varies from student to student based on playing level, musical interests, and personality. I use a mix of method books and aural learning techniques. The student's musical priorities always come first!

My comments on tutoring Guitar : I have 20 years experience working with students from beginner to advanced. Adult students are welcome.

I make sure each student receives a real music education and becomes comfortable with a music theory foundation, I expose all students to reading and encourage them to become good readers, which will set them apart from many guitar players out there. A good portion of the lessons focus on repertoire, with the student choosing the majority of the material.
I have about 20 years of one-on-one teaching experience working with all types of aspiring guitarists. I have been playing for 30 years, and have performed close to one thousand times in various small jazz groups, both as a leader and a sideman. I have also sustained original rock projects and played in large ensembles. I have produced large scale concert events and handled the booking for several music venues.

My comments on tutoring Guitar : I have played over 200 gigs with a dozen different bands as lead guitar player.

Business executive looking to assist elementary and high school children with their studies. I am a voracious reader and a life-long learner. I like children, have had exposure to tutoring before, enjoyed it immensely, was very good at it (in the sense that the children enjoyed my friendly manner and enjoyed the learning experience) and would like to help children remedy deficiencies and perhaps even learn how to enjoy learning as much as I do.
Friendly, non-threatening, clear and accomplishment-oriented.

More About This Tutor...

I began mentoring students during my tenure at Regis High School, a private, full-scholarship-only high school in New York City at the age of 17. After attending Villanova University and Fordham University's Graduate School of Business Administration, I began tutoring part-time with Studypoint. I have tutored over 30 different students in nearly all academic areas, including SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT and Academic Programs for grades K-12. I am currently a law student at Pace Law School in White Plains, NY, and I would love to continue educating bright young minds.
I would consider my teaching style to be very organic and adaptable. I consider each student individually, and I evaluate what works best for that student in particular. I am trained in various forms of teaching, and I have a complete understanding of the various learning personalities and characteristics of students that I ha ... read more

Since the age of 13 I have been playing bass. Since 1993 I've been a self employed bassist, audio engineer, producer and programmer. In addition to performing, I have extensive experience with computer audio/music recording and production. In that time, I have toured the world playing in several different musical styles. Most notably, playing with Jose Feliciano's. I've taught many students how to play bass privately and continue to do so today. I've taught at music stores as well as my home and students homes. In 2003, I decided that I wanted to integrate music and the internet, so I earned an Assoc. Degree in Web Development.
I really enjoy teaching students how to play the bass. It's a thrill when they have that "Aha" moment and what I'm trying to show them simply clicks. Every student I've ever had has had different reasons for coming to me and therefore I approach each individ ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

When I started working at Colchester High School in Vermont, I initially identified myself much more with the students than the teachers and staff. Back in high school, I went out of my way to rebel against the school. In Vermont I quickly learned that there is a big difference-- that as an adult now, I am on the "other side," but can use this closeness I feel with the adolescent mindset to help with the learning process for the kids. I believe that every child is capable of learning anything, it is just a matter of sparking the fire and desire to gain knowledge within them.
I graduated from McGill University in Montreal in 2001, with a BA in Geography and a minor in History. Since then I have had a very diverse experience, working in Vermont as a teacher's aide as well as in a land trust, and in Montreal managing a nightclub and booking bands and acts from Canada and the US. My pa ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe it is the responsibility of a teacher is not only to present the material in a clear and organized way but also to show excitement and love for the subject. Enthusiasm is contagious; students will be excited about learning a particular subject if their teacher is eager and excited about teaching it. Part of teaching is to convince the students that the material is not only knowable, but also worth knowing. I believe all students can succeed under the right circumstances. The responsibility of a good educator is to find what motivates his students. No single method of teaching works for every student, so it is very important that the teacher knows each student well and is able to use the approach which works for that student.
After graduating with my BS in chemistry, I went into industry and worked as an analytical chemist. After a short time in industry, I returned ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching and I love languages; language and culture are two sides of the same coin. I believe everybody can learn, but each in different ways. I'm told that I have a way of making people curious and eager to learn, not limited by the ability to transfer my own passion and fascination for languages to others. I am available to help your child find academic success. I believe in a "natural way" of acquiring ability to speak and internalize another languages. I have found that connecting and integrating the real world, actual situations and happenings in the teaching process is preferable and beneficial.
I have a bachelor’s degree from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, (major subject: Social Anthropology). Other university subjects are Sociology, Media/Communication, Literature and French. I am well read and I have a wide spectrum of interests. Since the late 80’s I ... read more
