My comments on tutoring Algebra II : I tutored 9th and 10th grade high school students in Algebra II for 5-10 hours per week for 6 months. I excel at math and love helping students gain a better understanding of the subject.

I try to get my students to find the answer for themselves by asking them questions. Students need to come to an understanding of their material and that won't happen if I continually give them the answers. I'm also very patient with my students. If they don't grasp a concept or topic that we're working on, I will continue to explain it to them in different ways until it makes sense.
I have been tutoring students for about 5 years. I started when I was a junior in high school. My first experiences tutoring were through the National Honor Society. I volunteered after school once or twice per week and I tutored mainly ESL students in Math and English. My senior year of high school and throughout the time I was in college, I tutored a high school student who had educational and developmental deficits. I believe that people learn in different fashions. For example, I feel that some concepts may be better explained with tangible objects while other concepts are learned better when questioned and discussed. By exploring the different ways of learning we can find what works best for that individual and use that method as a tool for their understanding. I love teaching because I truly enjoy seeing the light come on when a student gets it. I have had some excellent teachers in my life and have used their techniques to help students I tutor. I understand there is not one specific way to teach a subject and the key is asking questions to find out what will help a particular student.
