I actually started tutoring while I was still in college, helping out one of the science/math teachers, and proctoring classes when she needed me to. I have a BS in Natural Science with a biology emphasis, from which I've gained knowledge in most areas of science and math. Besides helping to teach in college, I also was a tutor for three years, in several subjects including Chemistry, Algebra, Calculus I and II, Physics, and more. I also was a member of the English Honor Society, where I proof-read papers for students once a week.
Since I have tutored for several years, I've found that every person learns slightly differently. The key to how I teach is to figure out how that person best learns. When I am teaching a subject, I attempt to pinpoint exactly where the pupil is misunderstanding the content. Then, I explain to the student in a way I believe will come across more natural. I truly believe in the variety of learning styles that all people possess. I believe they should be considered strengths and not weaknesses.
