A Little Bit About Me...

I have experience tutoring individuals with ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia, and those who simply do not understand the work. For the past 4 years I have tutored students in all subjects in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Also, I have a child who is ADHD with whom I assist while doing homework. I am a College Student studying English and Politics

I was a tutor in high school for many elementary and middle school aged children. I am also experienced with writing papers, so I can help anyone who is writing for a college application or essay. I am a very quick learner, so if there is a subject I am not as familiar with I am willing to study it to help a student. A total learning experience

I believe every student can learn, and as a result incorporate a variety of learning techniques to address a variety of learning styles. A Little Bit About Me...

I tend to prefer a Socratic method of teaching where the student discovers the answer through discussion, reading and research. I will use direct instruction on occassion when the need arises but my classroom is typically humming with group work and whole class discussions.

I began tutoring friends and neigbors shortly after returning home from Michigan in 1995. I didn't earn my degree from Michigan until 2000. However, I spent the years in between working full time and taking classes. Many of my jobs involved tutoring students. In 2001 I received my Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Temple, and taught in the shcool district from January 2001 - June, 2002. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that my teaching style is very hands on and easy to follow. I have the ability of simplifying statistical and mathematical procedures into easier, more understandable terms. My teaching style has been a product of working primarily with middle school kids. I believe that the hands on approach is the best way to reach these students. Using visual aids, manipulatives, foldables, and other materials provided can be extremely useful tools to reach them. Being actively involved in the learning process allows students to learn while they do not realize it.
As someone who entered teaching later in life, I began where most of my education to that point allowed, as a social studies teacher. I taught 5 years as a middle school social studies teacher.
