A Little Bit About Me...

I am very experienced in teaching small groups of college level students. During my senior year of college I was selected to be a Russian apprentice teacher through Kenyon College's Intensive Language Program. I taught students three times per week for approximately an hour each session. I had to go through training for this position, which taught me how to design lessons and utilize teaching tools to help students understand the material. As I am a recent graduate myself, I understand the needs of most students and what it takes to keep them engaged in learning. For example, I frequently used games as memorization tools for students that focused on repetition as a learning aid. In September, I am leaving to take part in the Peace Corps as a teacher of English language in Ukraine. I plan on pursuing teaching as my future career and want to keep building on my experience.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2007 from SUNY Brockport with an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education, English and Special Education. I have worked as a substitute teacher in all grade levels and in all subject areas. I have been accepted into a high degree Masters program but feel I need to have a job to justify the repayment(s) of additional student loans that would be needed to finish my MA. I have recently been a four county advocate for people with special needs as the Disabilities Program Navigator. I would still hold this position if funding had not run out. I have the abilities to work with any level of education.
I love to work with children of any age. I have been volunteering for over 15 years helping wherever and whenever I can to help make the lives of children more enriched. I have two boys of my own (age 10 and 14) and have been successful in helping them ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a literacy volunteer I was awakened to a deep desire to achieve my degree in a career in the helping profession. This profession opened doors for a career change in education. I embraced the challenges of a teacher/professor for students ranging from kindergarten to senior citizens, both in the class room setting and one-on-one tutoring in the home settings and community programs. Teaching continues to be the common thread that binds my life experiences with the core person I continue to grow into.
I love working with people of all ages and from a verity of cultures in an educational setting. I firmly believe that every person can learn but that each person has a dominate and secondary learning style of their own. In order to enhance learning for the student, I enjoy the challenge of developing and implementing lesson plans to match the students learning style. My teaching ... read more

As a graduate of the University at Buffalo, I have supplemented my strong academic background with extensive experience in tutoring. In addition to earning a Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics, I spent the first two years of college completing coursework in physics. The following two years, I worked for the undergraduate learning center as a mathematics and English tutor, and was hired by a local tutoring organization as a mathematics teacher. Throughout my academic career, I have written research papers, essays, and newspaper articles. I have also tutored several students on a private basis. I am currently pursuing a Second Bachelor’s Degree in geology at the University at Buffalo, and expect to graduate in the spring of 2011.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a double major in Mathematics (BA) and Computer Science (BA), I found myself facing many difficult problems in my four years at SUNY Geneseo. In such rigorous programs, both BA's helped me develop skills to attack and efficiently solve any problem that I encountered. Moreover, I improved and honed those skills working in the Computer Science Learning Center as a tutor for two years. I have tutored many different languages in low and high level classes - Java, Python, C, C++, MATLAB to name a few. In addition, I helped some students with low and high level Mathematics courses in those two years - when it was necessary for understanding.
I really enjoy working with students and find a great deal of joy in teaching. I believe that all students have the capability of understanding any problem as long as enough practice and perseverance is involved. I am patient, composed, and unders ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I sincerely believe that all students are teachers themselves. At any age, youth have the unrestricted ability to create and imagine anything they want. As a teacher, I believe it is my duty to guide the youth to find these paths of creation. Specifically, I believe that a student of any age, of any background, and of any ability has the ability to succeed in a musical setting. Although I firmly believe in the classical teaching methods, I also highly regard the guidance of self-teaching methods that allow youth and adults to create. I have the patience to work with anyone willing to work with me.
As a recent graduate, I feel that I can easily relate to a variety of ages. Receiving two degrees, a B.A. in Music and a B.A. in Anthropology has allowed me to be sensitive to any cultural background and/or differences. I like working with children. They are so appreciative and excited when they learn and figure out a new word or anything. I am easy going and very supportive. GIven a good learning atmosphere, good support, encouragement and enthusiasm and children can learn. Everyone learns in different ways; in a one-on-one situation that can be discovered and lessons designed to best help the child.
I finished my degree by going to summer and night school; I graduated in 1979. I was the first in my family to go to college and I am very proud of that. I have become a much better writer and am much more aware of grammar through writing reports, technical papers and SOPs. For a couple of years I volunteered for Literacy Volunteers because of my love of reading.

A Little Bit About Me...

Since learning is such an individual endeavor, I believe that flexibility is one of the most important ingredients for good teaching. A good teacher (or tutor) is responsive to the student's learning style, and indeed, to the student's mood during any given learning session. I feel that I am attuned to the cues that most students give and am able to respond with an a approach that would be most effective. If the student is a visual learner, we will work with that in mind. If he or she learns better by being actively involved, then I take on the role of a coach. Obviously, one size does not fit all!
