A Little Bit About Me...

Most of my students are at-risk or attention deficit students, so I employ a style where I emphasize a good set of basic skills and knowing why we use the techniques we utilize. Most of my methods are visual and I emphasize laying down the structure of the solution when useful. I always tell why each step is used. If they know the why, then math becomes intuitive and not just memorized. My methods have been extremely successful and I have tutored many of my co-workers children, including the district manager's son.
I worked as a math tutor as a student worker during my last 3 years of college while working on my BS in Computer Science until 2004. I had previously studied at the Milwaukee School of Engineering and had an extensive background in Math. A Little Bit About Me...

Tutoring is a profession which I have enjoyed for over nine years, often while teaching in the classroom or online, concurrently. I was able to teach multi-subjects to college students because I excelled in all subjects myself, receiving numerous scholarship awards and honors. I chose after school tutoring as my extra duty assignment while teaching middle school and high school. I enjoy tutoring students because I experience the moment of “Ah ha, now I get it!” with them.
I am eclectic in my approaches towards teaching, ranging from Montessori and Classroom Without Walls, to Behaviorist and Cognitive approaches. I use what is observable, measurable, and works. I started substitute teaching in 1983 while I was working on my Master's Degree at California State University, Long Beach. I have been a substitute teacher in Long Beach, Santa Barbara, Glendale, and Palm Springs. I have had experience as a long term substitute in Senior English for a year at Palm Springs High School, also in Palm Springs, I did six months as a Special Education teacher at Cree Middle School. While I was in Glendale, I worked a year at Allen Continuation High School teaching English and Social Studies. I have had extensive experience preparing lesson plans, grading papers, helping students understand subject matter and providing parents with information about their child's work in class.
