I was offered a fellowship by the Graduate School of City University of New York on the basis of my GRE (chemistry) scores soon after I have completed BS degree in chemistry with physics as the minor at University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. I have earned two masters degrees, MA in Polymer Chemistry and MS in Organic Chemistry, which has enabled me to gain admission to the doctoral program in chemistry at the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign where I have fulfilled all requirements for the doctorate in organic chemistry except the writing and defense of the dissertation itself. A Little Bit About Me...

While pursuing an undergraduate program in Biology, I was fortunate to join the peer mentoring program at my school. As a peer mentor, I tutored in General Chemistry 1 and 2 for two years. I made counseled and guarded my peers in my area of study I also tutored in calculus 1 for a program by the division of science called City College Academic for Professional Preparation (CCAPP). I later tutored in statistics for the premedical office at my school.
I love teaching because it provides an opportunity for both teacher and student to learn new things. My teaching style is more along the lines of the Montessori system. Given the freedom and much direction from the tutor, the student will often "discover" the essence of the lesson. In discovering the essence of the lesson, the student will take ownership. In taking ownership, the student in turn will develop pride, self worth, and a thirst for more knowledge and more successes.
