Having taught small and large classes, as well as one-on-one, I am a firm believer in the benefit that one-on-one and small group instruction can offer for students. As a teacher, I love being able to identify and capitalize on students' interests and strengths. I believe that all students can learn, and fully embrace and utilize the concepts of learning styles and multiple intelligences to help all students find success, regardless of the area of study.

I love teaching. While I have also been a counselor and administrator, I managed to be able to at least tutor along the way, with a few exceptional years. I found that children were especially responsive to me, so I often found myself with elementary children (who, under my tutelage, managed to "catch up" an/or improve their grade point average -- often to their parents' delight). Since I love learning, children and teens "catch" my enthusiasm, and invariably get caught up with my honest excitement about a suject. Learning is a terrific discovery process, and mastery of data and sills makes one far more confident. I have always loved Math and Science, which is what led me to complete a BS in Physics with a Minor in Mathematics. My education allows me to be confident in many areas of math and science. I recently tutored a high school student in the areas of Geometry and Chemistry, which took her from a C to an A. I also volunteered my time as a Matheletes coach for a local fifth grade class as a part of the Puget Sound MESA group.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a unique approach to teaching because my background is both analytical (numbers and science) and imaginative (theater and literature). While classroom training is my forte, I also have a solid background in teaching online. This combination is particularly useful since no two children learn in the same way. I do not believe any student is dumb. If he or she has struggled picking up a concept, it is more likely because the right method of teaching has not yet been explored. I also believe educational advancement needs to be determined objectively by comparing scores from start to finish and subjectively by measuring a student's own feelings about his or her progress.

I like working with children and young people very much. I believe that teaching should always be student-centered.
