My comments on tutoring Social Studies : My Master's Degree was in Film Theory and my final year thesis focused specifically on racism in a post-colonial context. I specialized in studying how Ireland's ethnic and semi-nomadic minority, the "Tinkers" or "Travelers" as they are not called, were represented in a variety of Irish films about land ownership. I have also worked extensively with social issues in the USA, mainly as the assistant director of a court-based volunteer advocacy program for children in foster care.

Social Studies is one of my top subjects! This is my primary area of certification and the bulk of the classes that I took in college were geared toward teaching social studies. I hold a degree to teach social studies in grades 7-12.

My teaching style consists of a combination of direct instruction, active student participation, and frequent and differentiated assessment. I begin by presenting students with the information they will need to know for the unit that they are studying. I do this through the use of PowerPoint presentations, the SmartBoard, and video clips. I will often stop at several points throughout the lesson to see if students have any questions.
