My teaching style is calm, patient, and supportive. I've learned over the years that in every situation, including the classroom, that in teaching writing, the instructor must begin where the student is, recognize and affirm existing positive skills and knowledge, and build on those. A Little Bit About Me...

While having no actual formal teaching experience I find that I am always finding teaching opportunities in everything I do. At Brigham Young University I started out in the Elementary Education Major and then switched to Sociology because I found it fascinating. however, I still focused my classes on education and cultural studies subjects. Due to life circumstances I left college in 2003, two G.E. classes short of my degree. This year I have worked to finish these courses and will have my degree in July 2009. During college I wanted opportunities to help others learn and so I became a mentor and was assigned to teenagers that were struggling in school. I believe that not all people learn the same. I certainly learn differently depending on the subject. I also know that reading and writing papers can be a scary task. I specialize in close reading, which means getting students to understand what they are reading and come up with a topic for a paper. I feel that taking a book one small part at a time will help to understand the whole. I believe the best way to learn the skills of reading and writing is to discuss books and topics with others. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a self starter, and am good at trying to help someone to see what their potential can be. I am a life-long learner and believe education is what makes people successful in today's society. I own a lot of software programs from the Teach12 curricula. I learn such things as discreet math, the Joy of Science and Understanding the Brain to name a few. I read book such as "Character is Destiny" and "Eleanor Roosevelt" to learn about our rich history.
