Summa Cum Laude | University of Michigan | You can 4.0 too!

While I was a Rotary Exchange Student – South Africa | 1999-2000, I volunteered to tutor students of various ages every subject, except Afrikaans, and was very pleased with their progress, and enjoyed it. I excel in the Arts (Creative, and Graphic), English, Statistics, French, Social Studies, Reading/Writing (especially essay) and would be best for college prep (Highschool ages grades 9-12), as well as Creative Arts for all ages. Please see my profile for everything I feel confident to be at expert level of. I am confident I could dramatically improve any student's writing skills as well as their art abilities.
I adjust to the learner and speak their language, establish rapport through mutual respect, and try and make it as fun as possible.

Personalized learning coach
This fall, I begin my twentieth year as a teacher. I'm still teaching because I'm still curious myself about the world around us, and sharing that passion, curiosity, and drive to know is part of my classroom every day. Showing learners the path to success is not just my vocation--it's an avocation. I've taught at high schools in Texas and Virginia, and have worked with students of all abilities: remediation and review classes, general, academic, honors, advanced placement, and advanced placement for gifted students. The courses I've taught include ESL English language, and reading, science, social studies, and math for ESL; Earth Science; Sat Verbal and SAT Writing; high school English for 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades; AP Language and Composition; AP Literature and Composition; Creative Writing; Practical Writing; and, Science Fiction. My comments on tutoring Literature : Have always read the great world novels from the great English novelists to the great Russian writers

Have tutored for five years with Wyzant, Tutoring Center of Herndon and on my own. My main concern is too make sure student is confortable in his/her understanding the subject material. The money part of the education of young people is really not a priority per se unless the individual student gets an understanding and hopefully confidence in taking on the subject at hand I tutor mainly in Math (Algebra, Geometry and Trig, but also Accounting, social studies, Finance, English , Reading Comp, Vocabulary
Laid back but serious as student learning subject matter is the most important factor in yuoring.

"Je suis un client de la langue française"

I believe in incorporating multiple methods of teaching language, and with such a complex topic as learning a second, or even third language I also believe in tailoring said methods to the student's specific needs. For example, if one finds a kindred with music, introducing them to french songs would be one of the stronger ways to accomplish fluency and language recognition. Depending on the student's age, I may also involve games, such as Simon Says (Simon Dit) for teaching vocabulary or even I Spy (C'est Moi L'espion).
As it relates to French Language skills, I completed 4 years of French in high school and 2 years (thus far) at Stony Brook University- currently taking 400-level courses in French Literature. In my Fall Semester of 2013, I attended the Universite de la Sorbonne (IV) as a Stofy Abroad semester, wherein I recieved my Certificate of Completion, passing High-Intermedi ... read more

Recent graduate focused in English and Lit.

I am 23 year old recent graduate from George Mason University. I have a major in English Literature with a concentration in Creative Writing, and a minor in Secondary Education. During my Senior year I taught full time at Edgar Allen Poe Middle School as one of two teachers in an English classroom. I have tutored elementary students in reading and writing during a nanny job. I attended Langley High School, and performed strongly in all of my English coursework.
I believe in allowing the student to work most of the problems out for themselves. While explaining the rules of a particular word problem or paper topic is important, the student will only learn if he or she is able to come to the right conclusion through dedicating the time and effort into the project that they are working on. I also believe that every student is capable of creating something unique to his or her own style ... read more

My comments on tutoring Literature : Able to tutor/teach all elements in Literature, whether English or American.

I believe in tutoring so that the child receives feedback and fully understands his/her own limitations and how to overcome obstacles in class. Many children lack positivity in the methodology! I also believe that using art instruction helps children to learn in a more creative manner.
I have over of 30 years of progressive experience in tutoring young children in the elementary years of education in all subject matter areas. My specialty is literacy and reading, but I am also adept in teaching all of the math curricula as well. I also firmly believe that teaching organizational skills and proper research methodologies are very important for the classroom today--and every child needs these skills in order to excel in the classroom and survive. I am also a qualified art teacher in the NOVA area.

Learn & Earn

Non-pedantic
Career as an analyst has developed many skills. I make a living communicating ideas with technology such as MS Excel. I use the English language like a scalpel, a precision instrument, that makes an exact cut. I have trained classrooms on advanced concepts, and I have tutored individuals on specific subjects.

Creative, Outgoing, Compassionate, New English Teacher

I firmly believe that the most vital ingredient for student success is passion. I am aware that most students do not walk into a classroom with this; which is why it is my objective to spark an appetite for the written word by focusing on the practice of reading and writing for the real world. Students must realize the purpose and real-life application of content objectives to construct their own meaning and develop autonomy. Through my studies and student teaching experience, I feel this is best achieved through a combination of fervor for the material, conferencing, reader and writers’ workshop, inquiry-guided instruction, critical literacy skills and a collaborative environment. As an instructor, it is my greatest goal to facilitate student learning in the most effective means possible. It is my opinion that a nurturing environment, apprenticeship and accessibility of content ar ... read more
