In a tutoring situation there is usually the immediate need (to pass a test) and the long term need to be able to succeed on their own. I try to balance these two goals but the guidance of the parents is most critical. I personally prefer one on one interaction for tutoring . I would first determine areas which need to strengthened. ThenI would emphasize these areas in the instruction process.Then I would assign work (exercises,problems,questions). These would then be reviewed to determine the students grasp of the material.These areas would be worked on until the student had an adequate grasp of the material. Accounting is a subject that is learned by doing.Certainally a student has to read the material,but actual hands on doing is where real learning and retention take place.Most of my tutoring hs been volunteering , but generally with minimal instruction those I have assisted have increased there scores 15% to 20%.
