My comments on tutoring Genetics : Familiar with the basics and slightly more than that.

I have taught for two years at Odenton Christian School in the Secondary department. I taught science and history during that time. Before that, I spent two years assisting in labs at college, helping students learn basic laboratory concepts. I greatly enjoy science, and communicating those concepts to students.

I try to guide the student to find a personal understanding of the concept. It is one thing to explain a point of difficulty to the student, but it is preferable for the student to be led to an intuitive understanding. It is my goal in teaching to facilitate the student in finding this type of understanding.
I have gained a solid understanding of many disciplines of math and science through my study of Physics. I have honed my writing and general English skills through the writing of laboratory reports, essays, and the completion of a thesis project. I would say that my teaching style is very interactive. Anyone can give instructions but I love feedback from a one on one situation as well as a group environment. I base alot of my instruction on analogies; when a person can relate an experience or another word to a term being tought, their understanding is broadened and 99% of the time embedded in the longterm memory. That to me is not only developing the ability to draw on a built up knowledge base, but also broadens ones ability to convey what has been learned.
