Teaching and School Counseling Services In One Place!

My style of education is to teach by modeling. Students need to see things in a step-by-step format with instructions, followed by an immediate example. I also provide sample argumentative essays for students who learn by seeing a complete model. My counseling style is to work with students, first by building a rapport and then using that as the foundation to get a feel for their college/career interests. I then look at their grades to help them build a custom transitional plan into early adulthood.
I have been a teacher for the last fifteen years. I teach social studies, but my specialization is teaching argumentative (college level) writing.I have done plenty of SAT prep and tutoring for students at the high school and college level. I am also a school counselor and can offer a vast array of services including FASFA, Naviance/Common Application and college/career counseling.

I believe that a love of school and learning begins with confidence in one's own abilities. Some find it easy, and others need a certain dose of encouragement and guidance to gain that self-assurance. As a tutor, I think it’s important to provide consistent practice and celebrate small successes so that the student rediscovers how good it feels to do well. In addition to regular exercises, I take the time to explain how and why things work and what their applications are in life outside school. I believe that this helps the student understand the rationale behind their efforts and can spark more enthusiasm to learn. I also try to identify each student’s special talents and incorporate them into my curriculum. That way, they can learn to identify what they are good at and how to apply those skills to any subject.
I have always loved to teach – even as a child in front of a tiny bla ... read more

I am a life long learner, and encourage all students to be life long learners as well. I love working with all children and have a true confidence that all children can learn, although possibly through different teaching styles. I am patient and work well with others (parents/guardians/professionals) to meet the needs of each and every student. I find that the environment in which the student is placed plays a major role in how and what is learned. My main goal is to make a difference in all students' lives and find that the most rewarding parts of teaching derive from the nurturing relationships I forged with every student and the sense of confidence they felt as they experienced success and growth within themselves.
Through my University’s thorough teacher preparation program, I worked with general education students and students with disabilities. I promote the development and w ... read more

I have cultivated strong writing and analytical skills in my college career at UConn. I took a variety of classes that requried me to articulate myself through research papers, poems, lab reports, and speeches. While at UConn I volunteered with a local congregation helping non English speaking individuals learn how to speak conversational English.
I think that relating a particular subject to a student is the best way to spark their interest and draw them in as learners. Often students do not learn the significance of what they are learning therefore they disconnect themselves from the material. I want to help students care about their education and teach them that any subject can be your best subject when you give it your all.

A Little Bit About Me...

I had once been told by a very seasoned teacher that "If you can not go through the front door find an open window." She opened my eyes to creative, and interesting ways to stimulate young minds. I love helping children learn, and finding their open window. A great teacher can incorporate different styles of teaching to adapt to a child's learning ability.
As a hardworking individual with excellent communication skills, I would like to explore the possibility of putting my talents and experience to help children. Currently I have a successful and satisfying career with Artwell Gallery, a nonprofit community based art gallery. However I am looking forward to embarking on a new career. I hold a BA in Radio, Television, and Film from Rowan University. For three years I worked in a pre-school teaching Art to students aged three to five.

A Little Bit About Me...

For the 2008-09 school year I was employed in the Connecticut school system in the special education department. There I developed experience tutoring special education students in grades K-6 and worked closely with a myriad of personalities, both adults and children. Additionally, I spent the previous year leading the art department of an influential promotional products firm. I gained experience in customer service and graphic design, and also invaluable knowledge regarding teamwork and juggling multiple tasks. These various facets of my background have enabled me to work well with both children and adults, in special education or otherwise.
I love working with both children and adults and enjoy both the similarities and differences in teaching style required for each. My previous experiences, both in academic and creative fields, have afforded me a great level of patience a ... read more

I believe in teaching hands on and focusing on children's strengths rather than their weaknesses. I also have the patience and the desire to work with children and teach them the fundamentals of accounting. Their future can be promising if they master the basics. Once the basics are established, there are unlimited opportunities.

A Little Bit About Me...

I view teaching as an opportunity to inspire and empower. As a teacher, one primary goal is to enhance student learning as a transformative experience. Ideally, I want students to feel personally changed and motivated. Learning is most likely to occur and be most effective when students are personally engaged with the material and perceive the subject matter to be directly relevant to their own lives. A student learns better when the approach most closely matches their learning style. Understanding the diversity of learning styles, abilities, and student experiences is imperative to enhancing this engagement. Learning is a complex process that is individual. As a teacher, I am attentive to this and work to be flexible, adapting my approaches according to the needs of learners.

I believe in encouraging all individuals to read, write and learn in a positive way that best fits his or her specific learning needs. The best teacher helps guide a student through the process hands-on and finds the way to make it clear to that person on their level through gentle discovery and practice.
