A Little Bit About Me...

In teaching large groups of people I’ve learned that different people have different requirements when it comes to learning. My style is to try to adapt to these requirements while keeping an eye on the objective. For instance, some people learn well by being provided exercises, performing these exercises on their own and receiving feedback. Others like to be taken through an exercise step-by-step.
In addition to my undergraduate degree, I earned my law degree in 2010. While enrolled, my reading and writing skills were honed. I was required to demonstrate proficiency in legal writing as well as an understanding of my intended audience. Grammar and spelling were expected to be top notch. I try to put the difficult concepts of mathematics and chemistry into words and experiences that the student can understand. In the words of one of my tutees I teach "Barney-Style". In other words I talk in words they can understand whether I'm tutoring a 4th grader or a college student. It is my goal to make the subject less scary and more fun.
From second semester freshman year I have tutored mathematics and chemistry. First it was at the campus learning center at Westminster College, then I went on to pursue a graduate degree in chemistry at Penn State University where I found that I like to teach more than I wanted to be a PhD Chemist, I was a teaching assistant for both Physical Chemistry Lab and General Chemistry for non-majors. It was this teaching experience that led me to tutor for the PSU Ag Science department in both chemistry and mathematics. I have also volunteer ... read more

During that time I have worked in different tutoring programs, some sponsored by churches and others by the public schools. I can tutor students in a variety of subjects including English, Spanish, and math.
