A Little Bit About Me...

I was a teaching assistant at North Georgia College and State University for three years. I assisted with laboratory sections of biology courses and taught them in the event of a professors absence. I provided department funded tutoring services during that time as well. I have taken the GRE and Biology Section of the GRE and received excellent scores on both tests in only one sitting. I have also coached 4H horse quiz bowl and horse judging teams for several years working with elementary and middle school age children.

I grew up in Jamaica and my formal years of education were under the british system. This sytem was very student friendly and much emphasis was placed on learning and not testing. I have earned a Bachelors degree double major in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of the West Indies Jamaica. A masters degree in Science Education 5-12 from Western Governors University Utah. I also completed my teacher education requirements at University of North Carolina Pembroke. It is my belief that every student yearns to acquire an education. As a recent graduate from Clemson University's Calhoun Honors College, I deeply believe in the importance of education. I was a peer tutor in high school for English and Spanish. I also tutored children in Hebrew at a local temple. In addition, I volunteered as a tutor for underprivileged children in Chicago in all areas: Spelling, Reading, Writing, Math, Language, etc. for grades K-8.
I love to work with children of all ages and genders. I have worked with children who have learning disabilities, physical disabilities as well as children of all ages, races, and genders. I attempt to make learning as fun and relevant to the child as possible as every child has varying levels of understanding and concentrations. I am extremely patient and can handle anything. I like to relate learning to childrens' lives (make it about basketball if the boy likes basketball, or about chocolate if the girl likes chocolate).
