Tutor for elementary kids with special education needs

I have volunteered in the Clark Shawnee School System for past 3 years tutoring/mentoring kids with learning disabilities in reading skills. Last school year I was hired as a paid tutor in the school system tutoring a Chinese child (ESL student) in grammar/vocabulary/reading/spelling. This year I will be assisting with math as well. I retired 3 years ago from a State of Ohio agency who worked primarily with folks with both physical and mental health disabilities after 30 plus years of service. These included adults as well as transition youth. I worked there from the time I was 18 years old. I also volunteered for an agency from the time I was 13 years old with children who had brain injuries.

My comments on tutoring Spelling : Spelling is one of my favorite subjects, and I can help you improve your spelling skills. I am extremely well educated and I couldn't have done this without knowing how to spell. I can help you improve your spelling skills.

Patience, repetition, mini quizzes, and following a plan, pretty much summarize my teaching style. I also like to make my students comfortable, by being understanding, encouraging them to ask questions, and being very willing go over material that I have covered. My goal is to help my students improve their grades, and while doing that, to also help them love to learn.
I teach exactly how I study. I discovered as an undergraduate student that a student has to have a plan of action when taking any course. You cannot just study without a plan and expect to score highly in a test. My teaching method has been tried and tested by me,so much so that I have consistently scored highly in most of my courses from undergraduate through graduate school and into the doctoral program. I will share my secret study methods with my students.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a parent concerned about the condition of the public school system we decided to homeschool our last two children. I began teaching them in the first grade and have continued up to, and including, the present time. My son is now a high school freshman and my daughter is in the eighth grade. During this time I helped start a homeschool cooperative. We wanted to continue homeschooling our children, but we also wanted to provide them with more choices taught by someone experienced, or having an expertise in an area. I have tutored students individually at school, but a tutor needs to start somewhere or will never get experience. I have always helped fellow students with homework by explicitly explaining answers when they are asked or at least triggering their minds to what they need to learn. I am anxious to teach middle school aged kids as it will be a fun experience and I have always thought about teaching kids, because we all need to have the opportunity to an education.
I do not have a specific style of teaching for each student. Each student has their different way of learning.
