Many teachers will say the same thing, that they love teaching and it is only outside factors that will disrupt a class and make it difficult for some students to learn. I delight in helping students to acquire new knowledge and there is satisfaction in having students thank the teacher after a class. I like to work with small groups and encourage these groups to explore and teach each other from my leading. Sometimes however, extraneous issues prevent students from learning adequately at school and I welcome the opportunity to supplement this education with one on one or group tutoring. I believe in teaching according to the curriculum. However, I will also pull in information from other historical and academic sources that will enhance the student's learning experience. I believe in allowing the student to prove their capabilities by allowing them to demonstrate their knowledge in different ways. I believe students should take exams but they are not the only way I test students understanding of the material. As a history major, I have a desire to learn more and teach more about the past. I have learned so much about the present through studying the past. I have written numerous papers and completed projects while in college. These will help me to teach students how to organize, prepare, and excel in history.

I have approximately one year of experience of professional teaching working with a grant funded program at UNCP. With this program was very hands-on and interactive with the students. I worked directly with the professors in the science department. As a UNCP alumnus, I currently hold a BS in Biology. I have tutored peers in the past during my second year at UNCP. I believe I'm an effective tutor because I remember the exact same difficulties and questions I had as a student and can relate to their frustration.
