My comments on tutoring World History : Highly qualified k-8

For 20 years I worked for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, as a fifth through 7th Grade classroom teacher. I taught all of the academic subjects in various combinations, sometimes all at once to a self-contained class. The State of Tennessee recognized me as "Highly Qualified" in all subjects, from Kindergarten through 8th Grade. I served on the district's math council for 5 years, helped direct the district's science fair one year, and worked extensively in the field of arts-based curriculum development. I also was trained in the IB curriculum, and implemented it for 10 years.

My experience as a teacher and instructor has been centered around my experience as a musician. Learning how to play and read music drastically helped me in school in all of my other subject areas. The greatest benefit of teaching, to me, is seeing the look in a child's eyes when he or she finally reaches that understanding of what you are teaching them.
