I enjoy teaching and helping youth learn. My philosophy is that all children can learn if provided the opportunity and resources that fit their learning style. I believe in positive reinforcement and praise. Children learn in many different ways, and it is an educators role to provide opportunities for children to learn through various methods. I am a positive and outgoing person and believe this is evident in my teaching and presentation style. I have worked for the past 14 years in the behavioral health care field. I have served as a mentor to a youth with behavioral/emotional issues. I hold a BA of Education with a minor in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education. I also hold an MSEd in Education- Counseling. I hold a current Nebraska teaching certificate and have worked with youth of all ages.

As a teacher and instructor, I have over 20 years experience in education and a BA in Music Education. I have 13 years experience teaching music, to all levels K-12, in public schools. In addition I have and continue to provide individual music lessons to children and adults. I also teach group kickboxing exercise classes at our YMCA. I have also enjoyed volunteering in our Awana club as a group leader assisting 3rd - 5th grade students. I have proven many methods of teaching, especially in instrumental music. Through large group rehearsals and individual instruction, I have been allowed to explore many types of learning tools. Kickboxing instruction has also provided even more opportunities for diverse learning. My primary method is demonstration and 'hands-on' approach, especially with learning an instrument. I started college with the intention of becoming an elementary school teacher. I completed all coursework at Chadron State College Chadron, NE with the exception of my professional semester. I graduated college in the summer of 1985 with two Bachelor of Arts degrees, one in Guidance/Counseling and the other in Recreation. I worked as a certified teacher in the state of Florida in an alternative school for emotionally disturbed/behavior disordered boys. I have 4 children and I have home schooled all of them to varying degrees. Currently I am home schooling my youngest two children and they are in the 11th grade. I enjoy teaching all subjects but am partial to mathematics, history and grammar. I love learning and consider myself a life-long student. I am a firm believer in getting a quality education.
