My comments on tutoring Entrance Exams : Exams all come down to prep and organization!

I have always approached a teaching lesson as a learning opportunity. Learning is a fundamental skill. If you don't have your basic fundamentals, your student will have difficulty advancing. So, I always start with basic fundamentals such as; note taking, study skills, and comprehension! All sciences demand the ability to link concepts together. Ex. cells make up tissues, tissues make up organs, organs make up organ systems,etc.....! By understanding the make-up of cellular structures and relating that to tissue functions the students can fully understand a subject. This proves true with all subjects. By impowering the student with good base fundamentals, my students find it easier to link concepts together.

A Little Bit About Me...

My goal is to give back to today's generation what was given to me as a young student, an opportunity to learn and to strive for success regardless of any obstacles they may face. I am a very patient, considerate and diligent individual. I ensure that the student has the materials learned by testing them on the material they have just learned. I don't mind being repetitive, because some students learn through repetition. I use a constructive as well as a visual approach while teaching. The students are able to apply the knowledge or information they have learned in a practical manner. Children have what it takes to be successful. However, they need guidance, encouragement and a good educational background to be able to show their potential. My goal is to help them one step at a time.

I graduated from the University of Central Florida top of my class in a science major, with a 4.0 average. I started tutoring about half-way through my first year and continued until I graduated. Major subjects I have experience in are Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Genetics, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Molec. A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from UCF with a Bachelors in Communicative Disorders (speech therapy). I love english and science and found this to be a perfect mix. I worked with children with language delays in group settings and also tutored children individually. I am currently in the process of obtaining my teaching certificate in science and working towards my masters degree.
I prefer to work with children who have learning disabilities and/or with a dislike for education. I find that my teaching style is interesting to this particular type of student. I acknowledge the childs dismay in learning and I allow them to help me to adjust the teaching material to a teaching style that best suits the childs learning style. Science and english are subjects that many children don't enjoy. I make it much easier for them to learn the subject and then we expound thier knowledge from there.

Since my days as a math tutor in college for high school students, I knew that I had the ability to explain numbers and abstract information to students across the demographic. I have a BS in Occupational Therapy, so I have the ability to functionally apply science information. I have a professional teaching license through the Florida Department of Education in Biology as well. In my current teaching position I monitor labs in which students take classes through online programs, many of these students require assistance in math, which I have more than adequately assisted them with to obtain their credit. I like to have students attempt homework problems on their own (before our scheduled time), and keep track of those problems that were difficult or confusing. We then walk through how to do those specific problems using 2 or more different strategies. I work to find the style of each individual student. Every person is capable of learning math, some just have different ways of seeing things. Often my students will say ‘why don’t they just say it like that in the first place?’ This is when I know I’ve done it; I’ve found that one students way of understanding math. I believe strongly that tutoring is much less about the material and moreso about the student. I pride myself in my ability to identify the learning styles of individual students and adapt my teaching approach to them. I believe that each child deserves to be reached out to on an individual level, and I like to engage my students in dialogue and discussion to create that bond. I feel that tutoring, and learning, is very much about trust; once the student trusts, he/she is willing to commit to learn...and that is often the key.
