I believe it is very important to be constructive and patient when it comes to teaching. I believe that I am thoughtful, patient, considerate, and compassionate when it comes to teaching. I feel that it is extremely important not to give the student all the answers, but to assist them so they are able to use reasoning to figure out the solutions themselves. I feel that it is very possible that one person can be able to help make an important impact in a students' education.

I believe that there is no such thing as one size fits all teaching. Every student learns in a different way, at a different pace, and much of the fun for me in the process of teaching is improvisation: discovering which methods work best for each student. I believe foremost in teaching students to take responsibility for their own l ... read more

Individually or in combination; visual, auditory, kinesthetic and tactile teaching styles are necessary for all of us to learn successfully, whether it be in a classroom of multiple learning needs students or just tutoring one student; be it one child, an adolescent, or an adult. The goal for the teacher is to assist the student in achieving a sense of success, while making learning enjoyable. Having reached success in a task, the learner feels a greater sense of self-worth.

I believe in mentoring. It does take a few times for the student (young and old) to understand that I cannot teach them anything. I can present information to them and attempt to inspire them to learn, but they are the ones who ultimately teach themselves. I very much enjoy helping them figure out the answers to their own problems. My motto: It is my job to help you not need me anymore!

I tend to prefer lectures combined with textbook assignments as opposed to teaching either using films, powerpoint presentations or computers. I work best with motivated students, even those with lower abilities, though I teach exclusively at the high school level and above. I am patient and one of my greatest assets is in analology; I have a profound ability to take complex ideas and make them simple.

When helping others, I do it two ways. I tell them how to do it and guide them through it. Other times, I show them how to do it. However, I do not do it for them. I would love to have the chance to help children succeed in their education! It would be an honor!

A Little Bit About Me...

All children are capable of learning. I believe that it is a developmental process. I also believe it is a scaffolding process in which we must build upon the skills that have been taught previously. If a student missed a skill, it is difficult to build upon it. Sometimes we must go back and re-teach that skill. Unfortunately that doesn't happen enough in our education system because there is not enough time or teachers for that to happen. But, if we can find where the student missed or misunderstood a skill and help them to achieve that skill, all the other skills we build upon then will come at a much easier rate for the student! The ultimate goal for me or any other teacher is to help the student to find success.
I have been working with learning disabled students in a resource room setting as well as in inclusive classrooms in a push-in situation for fifteen years. I am ... read more
