While I enjoy working with a younger population, I have had more experience with middle school, high school, and college students. I am very patient and easy-going, but I also expect that my students perform the tasks asked of them in the time given, as to further reach our goals. Visual aids can also be very helpful, such as using pictures, every-day items, or a chemistry model set. I have been teaching children since 1990, when I worked as a Naturalist for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. I did this kind of education for 3 years. I then created my own educational company and presented workshops on natural resource topics for children and adults from 1997-2002. More recently, from 2006-09, I worked both as a substitute school teacher and a contract tutor. I am presently presenting weekly tree programs at my local Boys and Girls Club. I am an advocate of hands-on teaching whenever possible. Praise works wonders in getting results from reluctant learners.
