More About This Tutor...

As a Business Administration major, I have had extensive schooling in all realms of business, accounting, and finance. In my earlier years, I had extensive exposure to math of all levels, as well. Additionally, I am very strong in English, even having edited a book and written the foreword for it. During my early college years I was employed in the Tutoring Lab and volunteered at the YMCA; more recently I have tutored individuals on an as-needed basis.
I believe that everyone is teachable, if the student has the desire and the teacher has the commitment. I tend to be a patient teacher, with high standards. I actively question the student, which allows me to challenge the student in my presence, where I am able to guide him/her. While I have predominantly tutored college students, I have also taught adults and children. My sister-in-law is probably my biggest supporter, since ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a recent graduate of Lock Haven University, I have obtained dual bachelor's degrees in both Accounting and Business Administration. Throughout the course of my college career, I have completed several accounting related projects including auditing cases, creating financial statements, etc. I have helped several students with accounting classes over the past four years, completed an accounting internship and am very educated in the subject.
I come from a teaching family, and continue to learn from teachers myself. I feel that because I am still eager to continue to learn new things, I can appreciate a good teacher. I myself need good teachers, and I would not provide a student with anything but that. I am a hard worker and give 110% for every job that needs to be done. My teaching style depends completely upon the level of the student. I will tailor each session to the student's needs. I am a believer in mastering the basics before moving on to the advanced. I also divide (and encourage the student to divide) materials into more manageable steps, making schoolwork much less overwhelming. My goal is for every student I tutor to become more confident and see noticeable improvement. I am very patient and can motivate each student to want to succeed. Having completed many years of education myself, it would be my honor to share my passion for education with others.

As a tutor at Eastern University I came to the realization that not all students learned in the same way. I have a different teaching style as compared to the teachers putting things into real life examples, or even making things hands on so my students understand better. The students knew that I wanted them to succeed and would stop whatever I was doing to help them do homework, study, etc. I can relate to the students while still respecting them and encouraging them to shine to their highest potential
I recently graduated from Eastern University as a double major in accounting and finance. My courses in investments, finance, accounting and business have given me a solid base upon which I plan to build my career. Teaching is an everyday occurence. As well as learning. I take a contemporary approach today. I assess an individual situation and apply my knowledge and experiences to fit those needs. I am calm and patient, yet subtly stern to the learning process. I love seeing the reward of another learning at the level of what I learned. I also take these experiences and apply to other aspects in everyday life.
I have been an accountant and business owner for over 25 years. I have all experiences in all aspects of accounting; which include principles, taxes, auditing and reporting. I also have the everyday work experience, which involves the applying of my accounting background to the running of a business.

I am driven to help students learn accounting, which is my profession and what I enjoy. I have earned two degrees, an MS from Lehigh and a BS from King's College, which has enabled me to gain an understanding in accounting and finance. I try to tailor my style to the student. Each student I had tutored when I was in college I had basically spoke with them, got to learn what they strong points were, their weaknesses, and areas that needed more base learning. I tailored lesson plans to help fill in their educational gaps, created small weekly assignments, and also helped with their current homework/lesson plan. I believe everyone learns in different ways. Some are more visual, others are more auditory so I tried to not only explain but also show by using whatever tools necessary/applicable (graphs, pictures, charts, etc.)
My love of mathematics began while I was in elementary school--I looked forward to those classes and took as many as I could from my high school, Wyoming Area. I had, at one point in middle school, helped to tutor some students in one of my classes. While in college at Susquehanna University ... read more

I believe in creating an atmosphere of mutual respect. I use a technique to assess what the student already knows by observing them and asking questions. Understanding their starting point will me help them to take their learning to the next step. By being familiar with their skills sets and their learning needs, I am adding to the student’s skills and knowledge, while respecting their personal learning process. I believe that explaining underlying accounting fundamentals reinforces learning and asking questions is the usual way I measure a learner’s knowledge. I am knowledgeable, patient and considerate.
