A Little Bit About Me...

I earned my A.A. in Theatre Arts at College of Central Florida in Ocala, Florida. I then moved to Lakeland and earned my B.A. in Theatre Performance at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. Last summer I was an assistant teacher for the summer camp at the Civic Theatre in Ocala, Florida.
I teach the basic concepts of acting through Stanislavski and Chekhov. I focus on character development as well as scene analysis. When analyzing a play or story, I focus on the basic concepts such as inciting incidents, major dramatic question, climax, the point of attack, resolution, the theme, and characters. I work with the student so he/she can find these elements and talk about them and expound on them. I work as fast or as slow as the student needs.

Learning comes with a pinch of confidence & creativity. :)

I implement creativity, and ample amount of positive, fun energy into the way I teach. I believe the key to any child's learning is first instilling confidence into them. When a kid learns confidence, they begin to have the fuel needed to learn. As they grow in this confidence, they can begin to experiment in their learning and become creative in the skills they master.

I really enjoy working with youth and helping them learn. I have faith that all children can flourish given the proper chances. I believe in making learning enjoyable, which is why my teaching style is based on mutual respect. I am patient, laid back, and I employ a rewards-based learning system. I’ve found that it is most helpful to relate subject material to the child’s interests, and so I do that often. I am always available to help, even through phone and email. I strive to make a positive difference in the world, and once I am committed to something, I give myself wholeheartedly.

I have always had an inclination to teach. To me, there is something very exciting about conveying understanding of a concept to another person. I think I have a particular ability for identifying precisely what aspect of a problem a student does not understand and then elucidating that point. I think much instructional time is spent inefficiently in explaining what a student already understands and not explaining what he or she does not understand. This is why I believe engaging the student in a conversation is vital, helping them identify their difficulties so that I can address them specifically.
I have always been an avid reader and writer, as well as a natural teacher. As early as middle school, I was tutoring my fellow classmates at the request of their parents. My teaching style is very hands on. I believe that children learn best when they are afforded the opportunity to learn through a tangible means. I enjoy learning, and therefore try to instill that same appreciation for learning in those in which I have had the opportunity to teach. The most important lesson that I teach any of my students is related to helping them discover the ways in which they learn best. Only then can the ongoing process of learning begin.

I believe each child has unique skills and capabilities and you must tap into these capabilities to assure the student learns well. Each child has a unique way of learning and every child is capable of succeeding with the right tools at hand. I am currently an English major at the University of Florida, looking to finish my undergraduate education in two semesters and graduate with honors and a Bachelor of Arts. I have had past experience working and volunteering with children on an individual level, teaching them various facets of English - including vocabulary, grammatical components, and have helped to develop comfort with such tests as the PSAT and SAT. This would be my first teaching opportunity specifically as a tutor, but I feel confident and capable that my education, passion for English language and literature, and past experience guiding children, will enable me to be a great tutor.
