I graduated from Edward Waters College in 1993.It is my vision and mission to give a student confidence and compassion in reading, writing, and history. All children can benefit!
I enjoy working with children. There are several assessment tools that I use in order to see where I would need to begin with any child. One of my favorite forms of assessment is Great Leaps.I have used this program and have seen growth in all subjects with students. Some students who were reading below grade level are now functioning with confidence on grade level. We all are like candles someone sparked our fire and now look how bright our lights our shinning.I would love to be that spark for your child.

I use several different forms of teaching that cant be placed in to one description. I find it to be more effective if i allow the students to show me something they are pationate about wether it be money, candy, heros, anything. More About This Tutor...

I have always enjoyed being able to teach children as our nation's next generation. I feel that I can be a positive influence and role model for children of all ages. As the child's caretaker, I feel it is my responsibility to discipline the child as the parent's would like for me to. I feel children learn best through positive reinforcement, however there are times where negative repercussions are necessary. I think the relationship between the caretaker and parent is very important; it is the link between the parents and the children. If this relationship is weak or faltered, it will strain on the relationship's of us all (the children and the caretaker, as well as the children and the parents).
I have earned an Associates degree in the Arts with ambitions to further it to a doctrine. This process has, so far, allowed me to become a well-rounded individual with all the ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My one and only passion has always been children. I strongly believe that every child should be respected and given an equal opportunity for success. In my experience, most children learn best through hands-on learning opportunities. Paper-and-pencil work has its place, however, I find it's important to provide other methods of teaching that cater to different types of learners such as kinesthetic and auditory learners. I also believe that children respond best to adults who have taken the time to connect with and show respect for them. And, most importantly, I believe learning should be enjoyable. As both a tutor and a parent, I take a firm, but fun approach to education.
I have both the educational credentials as well as the work experience to be an effective tutor. As a professional, I have experience working in both the education and social work fields. This has given ... read more

I have worked with children from various backgrounds and feel that I generally have a great rapport with all types of children, as well as with their parents. I believe in making learning fun and exciting, as well as using various teaching methods to meet the needs of each individual student. I believe that all children are capable of learning, from the profoundly mentally handicapped to the gifted; it is just a matter of learning how to reach and connect with each child.

Patience is, without a doubt, my biggest virtue. Taking art lessons can be intimidating, especially for an unsure student. With my experience, I have been able to identify the measures to instruct my students while keeping them comfortable in a positive environment. My goal for every lesson is to have my students leave confident and with a sense of understanding and resolution.
Having grown up with tremendous support, I have been able to pursue my career in art and art education with focus and determination. After receiving my Bachelor's degree in Painting from the University of Florida, I found my way into the Duval County Public School System. Though my position was surplussed only two years later, I was able the witness the great need for an art outlet in children. I focused my attention towards the city parks and recreation system, where I have been teaching home school, ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been at Fccj for a little over two years. I have studied and mastered a variety of subjects. I am starting JU next summer to earn my BSN. I currently have my AA degree in nursing.I've spent a lot of time in the student life and leadership department that works one on one with students to help them with college success.
I would say that my teaching style varies depending onthe person I am teaching. There are several ways that people respond to in order for them to understand. I thik that everyone has a unique teaching style but still needs to be flexible in order to help the student understand.

Because I was fortunate enough to receive an education, I always felt compelled to give back to the community in the same way. From my years at Summerbridge (now Breakthrough Miami), I tutored elementary and middle school students in math, literature, English, science, and history. Afterwards, attending a prestigious liberal arts college allowed me to keep up with my various academic passions in addition to high school tutoring. I studied sciences and math to fulfill my pre-medical focus while working on writing and research with my degree in history.
From my experience with my own education and in tutoring others, I realize that there is no such thing and an ignorant child. Rather, a successful student is a hard worker who often times needs a little guidance and patience. Because I am an easy-going and flexible person, I am able to connect to the child in fun and interesting ... read more

When I am working with students, I bring a high energy level and an equal measure of patience. I love showing children how what they are studying today will help them in the future. Every child is different, requiring activities and instruction suited to their learning style. I will persist to find the explanation that works best for each student with whom I work. All students are capable of success and academic excellence. The greatest rewards are often those that are difficult to achieve. As an educator and life-long learner, I am excited to confront and overcome those challenges.
