As a youth I desired to become a teacher. I come from a long line of classroom teachers. My mother is a teacher, my grandfather was a professor at the University of Florida, and both great-grandmothers were educators as well. I have experience working with children since in high school where I worked summer camps, in college working with after school programs and tutoring those students, to graduating college and implementing teaching strategies in my own classroom. After graduating college, I worked at a local children's shelter as the Director of Outreach and Prevention. Through this position I was allowed to work with at-risk children in the Marion County School System (through an interagency agreement). In an attempt to reduce truancy, our agency focused on literacy and tutored children in reading (both in the school system and out in high-risk areas in the community). I loved this so much I went back to college to become certified in Exceptional Student Education, and began teaching at Belleview-Santos Elementary, then at Ocala Springs Elementary.
