A Little Bit About Me...

I have spent most of my life in an academic environment. I thrive on success- not only my own, but also the success of others around me. I became a substitute teacher in order to gain experience as a classroom leader. Tutoring is a necessary duty of an educator. I believe a one on one environment is conducive to learning and retaining information; being able to receive direct feedback from an educator is one of the most valuable assets to a young learner.

Transform drooping paragraphs into rocket-fueled dynamos.

As a former Copy Writer in the Professional Corporate World, my delicately skilled mind has been injected with days on top of countless days of experience in the mysterious art of Word Craft. Professionally, I have experience constructing everything from Press Releases to DVD Cover Copy, editing television documentaries, polishing marketing materials, and much more. Also, on the creative side, I write fiction in the form of short stories, screenplays, and am working on several novels --when time permits and genius strikes or at least faintly glimmers.
I am a dynamic person: passionate about the arts, entertainment, and just about everything else. I definitely bring zeal and creativity to my teaching, but am also a fun-loving and laid-back guy. Although I am not a certified teacher I taught theology and speech at a private high school. I loved my students tremendously. And I tried t ... read more

Have fun learning and reach for excellence!

I have lead many training sessions dealing with a multitude of different topics. I do my homework, and make sure I am fully prepared before any training session. I want to make sure I know the answers to any possible question before the questions are asked. I have tutored students one-on-one and in small groups from different levels of math to every aspect of English, grammar, and writing. I have taught many classes in painting and drawing, and I am a constant student of all areas of art, including photography.
My personal style of learning is to learn by doing. I get my students involved in any process and get them to actually do the work so they learn it from experience, not just reading about it and taking for granted they know what is going on. Seeing the steps in action and seeing the final result brings a sense of accomplishment, which helps a student learn the correct ... read more

Possession is 9/10 of the law.. Description is 9/10 of saw.

I have been writing for my whole life, and have a love of the art that is description. Since Mich of humanity's understanding is based on metaphor, description and its subtleties is a key part of any writing process, be it creative or instructional. My favorite form of writing is creative, however I also enjoy writing essays and other pieces based on fact. No matter what form of writing you endeavor to do, getting your point across through description is paramount. I have placed and won poetry contests, and have written many essays of undergraduate and graduate levels.

A Little Bit About Me...

I've tutored two kids in my neighborhood for 40 buck every two weeks. It was a marvelous experience because they were very respectful young boys...majority of the time. It was kind of hard for them to keep their focus so i drew a plan which was rewarding them with candy and toys, and of course since it was my idea I didn't charge extra. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to tutor them anymore because had to move with my mother. All in all, no matter the task I will always try my best to achieve!!!

At Birmingham-Southern College, I was the News Editor for the college newspaper for two years. In addition, I have a minor in Journalism. I love to write and I feel that this is one of my strong points. I also tutor two young girls every Wednesday afternoon at Girls, Inc. of Central Alabama. I help them with everything from writing, to reading, to math and history. I am also working on my Masters Degree and will graduate with a Masters Degree in Counseling in 2011.
Before I start tuoring a child, I like to get know them first. I think it's important to build trust with a child before jumping in and telling them what to do. A child will be more likely to accept help from someone they know rather than a total stanger. I like to make learning fun.

I try to put myself in the student's shoes and find which method of teaching can reach the student best. I try to identify the student's strengths and weaknesses and work out a program to help him or her achieve his or her goals. I also like to involve the parents or guardians as much as possible to keep them updated on the student's progress and how they can contribute to the learning process. Many children struggle with classroom learning because they require a different learning method than the one being offered or more direct attention than a teacher of 20+ students can offer. As a dyslexia therapist I was instructed in a number of different approaches to teaching and how to match each one to an individual student's needs. As a tutor I make it my priority to learn not only which subjects a student needs help with but also why they are struggling at all which allows me to adapt the lesson plan in a way that is easy for them to understand and retain.
Even before attaining my degree in English from Jacksonville State University I was passionate about all forms of teaching. I have over a year of experience tutoring college students at Jacksonville State University's Academic Center for Excellence and immediately following that nearly another year of experience tutoring dy ... read more

For years, my passion has been “to gladly learn and gladly teach.” Since graduating from law school, I coached Cumberland’s National Arbitration team to two consecutive top 20 placements, taught “Criminal Evidence” to Miles College undergrads, and now will being teaching “Research and Writing” at the Birmingham School of Law. I have also taught karate and coached girl’s junior Olympic volleyball, so I’m passionate and energetic, as well.
My teaching style has to do primarily with desire; that is, if you want it and work hard, you can achieve your goals. One cannot teach or coach “heart” or discipline – that is all I require of my students -- the desire to learn, achieve, get better at what it is they are doing. I will work diligently to understand what is blocking that road to success, teach tips, tactics, and shortcuts to understanding theory, and support a love of the subject ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I use age appropriate workbooks to help children to practice English. I read enjoyable books to children and have them read back to me while questioning them on the logic and content of the books. I have computer software learning equipment, learning games, learning blocks, flash cards, etc. that helps children to develop a love for reading/English. I am good at evaluating a child and determining which grade level he/she is at and trying to advance them to their current grade level.
I have been a tutor for the past 4 years working for the No Child Left Behind Program. I taught English/Grammar/Writing to pre-schoolers through 5th graders. I am an excellent reading tutor/teacher. Many students struggle with relationships and well as their academics. I believe in creating a safe, nuturing environment were a student is able to work at his own pace, at his own level, and feel a bond with his teacher. Setting realistic and obtainable goals with the student is a key factor to success. Measuring and documenting progress allows student, teacher, and family to see a visual record of growth. Addressing multiple intelligences and multiple learning styles are essential for struggling students. Finding a student's best mode of learning increases self-esteem and time on task.
I have 20 plus years of teaching experience. I have worked with students from pre-school age to adults. I have taught students with a variety of disabilities and functioning levels from severely impaired to gifted.
