A Little Bit About Me...

During my four years of experience at the University of Scranton, I have tutored numerous high school and college students in algebra, geometry, and calculus. I am going to obtain my bachelor's degree in secondary education on May 31, 2009, with a concentration in mathematics. I have just completed student teaching, where I taught and tutored students in Algebra I. I have completed an Honors Program thesis on technology use in the classroom, and have found ways to implement the technology into my lessons. A Little Bit About Me...

I try to tailor my style to the student. Each student I had tutored when I was in college I had basically spoke with them, got to learn what they strong points were, their weaknesses, and areas that needed more base learning. I tailored lesson plans to help fill in their educational gaps, created small weekly assignments, and also helped with their current homework/lesson plan. I believe everyone learns in different ways. Some are more visual, others are more auditory so I tried to not only explain but also show by using whatever tools necessary/applicable (graphs, pictures, charts, etc.)

Teaching is a difficult task. Everyone learns at a different pace and on their own level. Some students are quick learners and their teacher only needs to go over the lesson once; other students need to hear the subject content in a different form to understand it. Having said that, I can't explain my teaching style as a cut and dry formula. The skill level of each student and the way they process information will determine how I will present them with questions and explanations.
