I have a very flexible approach to teaching and am able to adapt to each student's unique learning style. I am familiar with ‘constructivist’ learning and have successfully applied this approach in the classroom with various strategies designed to assist all students in maximizing their learning. I encourage students to actively participate in their own learning, rather than being passive recipients. Students who are disengaged can become engaged when they are in a positive, supportive environment, where their own individual learning style is catered for. Inquiry based learning as opposed to students as passive ‘sponges’, also creates higher levels of student engagement.

A Little Bit About Me...

In 2006 I began working for the American English Institute as a tutor to university students studying English as a Foreign Language. In 2007 I gained employment with the Eugene, OR school district as a Classified Substitute where I fulfilled a variety of positions; mostly working with IEP students or assisting in Learning Resource Centers. In 2008 I graduated from the University of Oregon with a BA in Chinese and a minor in Asian Studies. In July of 2009 I had the opportunity to travel to Indonesia as an ESL teacher through English First. I lived and worked in Indonesia for one year teaching English grammar, writing style, reading, speech, listening, and business culture to students ranging in age from 3 years old to business professionals.

I have been teaching English for over 15 years. After I got my BA in Secondary English Education I joined the US Peace Corps. I went to Poland in 1992. I taught at the local high school, the teacher training college and at a nearby hospital. Then I returned to the USA and got my Masters degree in English. I have taught Freshman Composition at the American University of Sharjah in the UAE and I taught at the Intensive English Programs at Colorado State University and at AUS.
