Latin is one of my top subjects! I have four semesters of college Latin and a B.A. in Classics.

I am someone who understands that not all children learn effectively the same way. I am someone who will sit down with my student and ask them questions regarding how they learn and how they do not learn. Sometimes a student will not know how they learn effectively but they will know what does not work for them. From there I try to tailor a program to suit that student. As a tutor you are able to have that one on one time and you can design your instructions for a specific student therefore making your teaching more effective.
While pursuing a double degree from the University at Buffalo and working part-time, I worked in peer tutoring groups for Latin and writing. A Little Bit About Me...

In college, I tutored kids K-5 on primarily their reading skills. However, I also asked them if they needed any help with any other subject and what material was covered. From this I would put together study outlines from their notes and textbook. This allowed me to know ahead of time what should be emphasized. Also, when teaching a biology field to a more mature individual, I find that reading up on the material actually emphasizes my passion for the field. There also have been times I have made up mnemonics for certain biology topics, whether it is a rhyme, story, or parody of a song. I find that it makes learning the material easier and more enjoyable. My friends always have enjoyed them as the mnemonics always can create a laugh.

Often by asking questions, doing practice problems and just listing to the student's logic, I can tweak their thought process so they better understand the material. I am so proud of a student who begins to understand something they thought was too difficult. If a student has a willingness to learn I can share techniques to make learning easier. I help students develop a step-by-step process they can apply to each type of problem. I find that using charts and tables can help to organize complex problems. I have a great deal of customer service experience working for both M&T Bank and Key Bank. I excelled in Reading and English subjects throughout school, reading multiple grade levels ahead of myself. I was a writer for Nardin Academy's newspaper and also for Canisius College's newspaper. I have teaching experience in home instruction in flute and piano.
I love teaching and helping children learn. My philosophy is that you have to make this information that your children are learning relatable to what they are going through. If you do this children will enjoy learning. I feel that it is also to make sure that you are helping children learn in a fun, yet productive environment.
